Why did people start calling the covid vaccine ‘the jab’?

I’m using the term vaccine just for the purpose of this discussion.
I remember that suddenly the phrase ‘the jab’ started appearing everywhere, and persists to this day.
Was it a case of people just repeating what other people said?
Was it specifically used by people pushing the shot because ‘take the jab’ sounds less threatening to people than ‘take the shot’?
Some other reason?

Technically, it does not meet the definition of a vaccine.

It’s a British thing. They’ve been using it forever.

Before 2020 had you ever heard of people calling shots ‘jabs’?
Remember in 2018 when everyone was saying ‘Get your flu jab!’?
I don’t either.

The British
It started there and US citizens picked it up.

Yes

My scientific reasoning is that a baw feels like their 3 inch pecker grows to 4 inches when they type jab.
Before covid I had never seen it used.

Because it wasn’t a vaccine.

A vaccine prevents you from getting or transmitting a disease. The Covid shot does neither. That’s a proven scientific fact. Thus, it’s inaccurate to call the Covid shot a vaccine. It’s simply a shot, or as some commonly call it, a jab.
Personally, I prefer to call it the “clot shot.”
