Sure. Just trying to provide some modern context.

Same reason people start stupid threads about women, I guess.

And I'm not trying to argue with you but isn't that kind of giving in to the idea of self as God
that new words, new ideas, new challenges, as if we have it so hard.
Our modern ego needs something, unique to us, to be used to describe the condition that has always existed between man and his Creator

I knew a chick who was into those
I did find it interesting that she had collected versions from around the world and different countries and she had a set that was over 100 years old Her interest was more in the collection of th art than the vooDoo

but it was a risk

Stanley mugs, Chik-Fil-A, iced coffee, what's next? They're trend followers. Just like men and Huk'd, Yeti, and all kinds of other shite. FOMO. They have to talk about something.

cult of consumerism

There is a film documentary about an African nation where Coca-Cola became the most culturally significant thing in the world
An entire culture was built around Coca Cola

We're just a different country and a different product

alot of that is a sort of a centering exercise

just a mental thing

the habit of it,

resetting to the muscle memory

was true for me batting, but I never had the superstitious manifestations

I don't disagree. But Guinness is probably second to Coca Cola in terms of penetration on every continent Who would have thought appealing to men of all cultures like this would be effective (it is awesome):

We used to have a shirt at the pub I worked at that said:
“Guinness Gaelic for Genius”

They were right

I somehow manage to find Irish nearly everywhere I go in the world. Accent or not, it's the extensive craic with someone they don't know. That guy you just met may be bipolar, but he knows him some Yeats!

ETA: True story, based on the guy I met that started calling anyone he knew to meet the American. While at the urinal, he told me he was waiting on his dad to bring his anti-psychotic meds because he wanted to stay longer at the pub.

I was sitting in a pub in Ennis, Ireland - it was starting to fill up because a 6 Nations Rugby game was coming on. My husband had gone to the bathroom and this old guy came up to me and said something to me and I said ‘what?’ He rolled his eyes and said it again and the bartender yelled ‘she’s an American, Paddy!’ So the old man goes ‘oh! Can I have this chair?’ And I said yes - then he winked and bought me a Guinness

My husband came back to the table and Paddy bought him a Guinness for ‘landing an Irish-American’ girl’

The bartender later told us that Paddy was always drunk and not playing with a full deck.

So he and I are probably related.

That kind of interaction is textbook Irish. I love it. Glad you got that.

Paddy was always drunk and not playing with a full deck.

I walked into a bar in Athlone wearing a red polo, and someone handed me a baby (3-4 month old) because I was wearing the right colors for a Liverpool bar, and they'd just won the FA cup or similar. I had no idea what was going on, but they seemed very drunk (tracks for LSU fans.) I eventually found who the kid belonged to, and repatriated it. Then I got drug around ROI for 2-3 days, including being rained in answering questions about why Americans did X or Y for an entire day. The easy explanation became "Think about what the British did to you." (The first time was before mass migration.)

Then, they got it. I like to go in shoulder season, when you might get rained out, but it's about the craic and the scenery anyway.

The Irish are one of the only people that want to know everything about where you come from, what you do, what your family does, etc. Any other culture engages in surface level convo, the Irish (meaning non Dubliners) want to know it all. Over a creamy f*ing pint.

Honestly the first people I thought of when I read the title. Baseball players are insanely superstitious. It’s borderline ridiculous.

It's written on their souls and part of their genetic makeup from God. They are, inherently and generally, more spiritual than men.

Women often connect deeply through shared spiritual journeys, forming powerful bonds in gatherings like Women's Circles, prayer groups, or sisterhoods, fostering safe spaces for vulnerability, mutual support, healing, and growth through activities like meditation, shared rituals, mindfulness, and deep, authentic conversation, moving beyond competition to build profound sisterly love and collective strength.

Men often connect over sports, competition and side by side tangible communication and interaction over shared emotional or spiritual connections.

Learning what makes a man and woman different is a HUGE key to being good husband, father, son, sibling and friend.
