Learned how to play golf on that course, but 9 of the holes were on the other side of Nicholson at that time. I only remember hitting a few cars
My dad broke a winshield on 9. I hit the CEBA building quite a few times which was surprising bc I usually played a draw but i would hit a push slice on that hole

I thought it was inevitable with the development of the new arena?

Same. We would play for money if it was too late in the evening to play nine. The twilight fee was great.

Santa Maria and Webb are the only courses in BR that actually make any money.
City Park runs at a profit. Not a massive one but it’s not costing BREC money

The golf course looks nice, if nothing else. They need to knock some of that bullshite down along Nicholson north of campus and build an arena.
That said, I am glad they are not thinking about putting it downtown any longer,

To make the LSU arena possible, LSU would have to enter into a long-term ground lease with the developer. Such agreements typically run 50 to 100 years, effectively removing the property from LSU’s control for the better part of a century. Once leased, the university loses the ability to use, repurpose, or reclaim the land for academic, recreational, or research needs. In other words, the LSU arena is not only a $400 million bet on private development but also a generational surrender of public land on Louisiana’s top university campus. The community isn’t just giving up tax revenue — it’s giving up land-use flexibility for a century, binding future LSU students, Baton Rouge residents, and area shoppers to decisions made in secrecy.
Reporting I saw said 30 years, not 100.
Also, if you don’t want to pay the 1 cent tax, don’t spend your money in the district.

Downtown will be shifting to the other side of campus.

the LSU golf course
Really stretching the definition of a golf course here. It's by far the absolute worst golf course I've ever played. The greens are so bad its literally impossible to put a straight line. The fairways and tee boxes aren't much better. The grass is 90% weeds and none of it drains well at all. It's horrible. It can't possibly be any worse and I honestly think it may be the worst golf course in the country.

That's the way it was the ONLY time I played that course: registration day August 1984, with my roommate from North Stadium dorm that year...

There was this dog leg right hole right next to the large cattle pasture and the boundary was a simple barbed wire fence. There was this large silo on the pasture side and if you could clear it with your shot then you were in great position for a birdie. One guy I was playing with must have been a city boy. He bounced his ball off of the top of that silo and decided he wanted his ball. As he is going through the barbed wire fence, I told him those large 4 legged animals were bulls and that what he was doing might not be a good idea. He goes through the fence and starts running towards his ball. Here comes Mr. Bull at a full run. Not only did that guy give up on his ball but he made a beautiful dive through the barbed wire fence losing his shirt and gaining many bloody scratches from that barbed wire fence.

The 9 hole golf course at LSUA was closed not long ago and they're building student housing right now. May be a trend for schools with a golf course near.

These two statements are contradictory:
quote:
"This arena is not costing LSU anything," Engquist said. "The developer is funding this arena."
quote:
"We have put in place an EDD on LSU's campus," Engquist said. "We're in the process of putting together a sub-district there. Each of those entities will provide 1 cent to the developer and then at the point in time this gets signed up and it's real, then they'll ask the city for 2 cents."

'Cause they lost the golf ball?

But didn’t the proponents say the developer was financing the whole deal?
Now we see there’s a tax. A tax the voters didn’t pass. A tax you pay when you buy a beer at the Box or a hot dog at TS.

This is the most LA shite ever. A developer chairs TAF and gets to pick the developer. Like those two dudes aren’t colluding.
quote:
Well-known Baton Rouge developer John Engquist is passionate about the LSU arena coming to fruition. As the chair of the Tiger Athletic Foundation committee that helped pick the developer for the project, he knows the ins and outs of the project.

No residential allowed in the district, so no voters exist in the district.

Because the new LSU student body doesn’t play golf.
Demographics are destiny.

Not true. You will find plenty of them at City Park or Webb on a daily basis.

I must have missed the discussion on here.
Seems like this would be a big deal.
