Because all women are wired that way so when they get in an environment where it’s common and not stigmatized they go with it.

I remember long ago when I found out that if a girl wears a bow in her hair it's a sign she is not a dyke (softball). It is pretty spot on I have noticed.

I knew a girl who was a good athlete. She could likely do well at almost any sport. This was the time of Seimone Augustus at LSU. Her mom did not let her get involved in high school athletics. She felt it was filled with lesbians and didn’t want that around her daughter. I thought it was funny at the time, but her mom was not that far off.

If you ever play co-ed softball, you need them to win. I played in bar leagues in my 20's and 30's, and coached a team at work in my 40's.
You need one or two to compete, and three or four to win your league.

Assuming you are looking for a legitimate answer to your question, I would think this...
Being interested in sports and its competition, I think testosterone is involved.
Even "normal" women have levels of testosterone.
I imagine lesbians have higher levels of this and thus they are inclined to be athletic as well.
