So it gets to 700 million and people go crazy buying these tickets. Are they thinking "Nah, I don't want to try for 60 or even 100 million; I have no use for that". "But 700 million? I'm all over that"

I wish I knew the answer because I am one of those people.
I never buy lottery tickets unless it's over $400m.

Even then I only get a couple. (I spent $20 on 10 today)

I think people feel more compelled because they can daydream about the ridiculous amount. The more money the more crazy the dreams

Why do all of these people want high paying jobs? I don't want to flip burgers or work as an accountant. But investment banker? I'm all over that.

You don't understand why more people buy in as the reward gets bigger while the odds remain constant?

I'm just the opposite. I wouldn't mind winning up to, say, $10-20 million. But much more than that and you'd have to completely change your life. You'd have to hire bodyguards, worry about the safety of your family, not see friends or family whenever you wanted. And those friends and family are likely to be resentful no matter how much you gave away. Not worth it to me.

frick them, then. If they're going to turn on you if you win the money, they're shite. The money didn't make them shite. They were already shite and you just choose to hang out with and share genes with shite because they were in your price range.

But if you don't win, then guess what? You're just stuck with your shite friends and family and you're still poor. At least with $900M, you can buy new friends and family that are way better looking than the homely ones you currently keep around because they're the best you can afford.

Unfortunately, the expected payout may not also rise. The greater number of players results in a greater probability of multiple winners splitting the pot.

I am sure there is a statistician that has looked at the sweet spot for the greatest probability of the highest payout. It is probably in the $300M range if I had to guess (right before the news picks up the story and the pot grows to $500M+).

Maybe they think their odds of winning will increase as participation also increases? Voluntary taxes!

Maybe not the bodyguards and shite like that, but if you became 10-20 million dollars richer in a day, everyone (and a lot you don't) will know about it.

You think leaches won't bother you because you won 8 figures instead of 9?

Well fck yeah I would want to change my life. I want a house on four continents and constantly be living the high life.
If you set it up right where you form an LLC or do other shite you can be hidden to some degree.
And I would have no problem with telling any friends and family that had issues to fck off. I don't allow shitty people to mess with my life.
