Am wondering how the logistics of this is going to work, these schools are giving lunch and breakfast at set times of 7 am and 11 am pretty much statewide...are they limiting flow? Drive through and grab? Will be interesting to see what the plan is while still abiding by the spirit of schools closing in the first place.

How do you quarantine and leave the house to grab food everyday?

Our school district is setting up drive through stations in the parking lots of 5 or 6 schools. Meals will be handed out there.

My parish is 100% free lunch (and breakfast). For some kids, those are the only meals they eat all day. For many kids, these extended breaks are not a joyous occasion, because their consistent routine of being fed is interrupted. If my assistance is needed over the next several week distributing meals, I have no problem doing so.

In East Baton Rouge Parish every student can get a free lunch. I think the sites that they're using to distribute meals while the schools are closed are the ones with large kitchens which can handle prepping for a large amount. This is what the do for the summer feeding program. Some of these schools already prep the food that is sent to smaller schools for their cafeterias during regular school days.

I give this a week tops, then I see the state moving towards emergency benefits in place of school breakfast and lunch. Schools will run out, or never be able to get a handle on logistics, or whatever else which will lead to angry parents calling school boards and news stations

Back when I was in elementary school when we would have pizza or spaghetti some of the ladies working in the kitchen would go around wiping all the kids face with the same damp towel.They weren’t worried about spreading anything except tomato sauce.

Grab-and-Go Meals – NEW INFO!
We are executing an emergency feeding plan for our students to ensure that they do not experience a lapse in food security. The emergency feeding plan will provide free breakfast and lunch meals for students up to age 18. Meal service will begin on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, through Thursday, April 9, 2020, each weekday from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Meals will be served at these 5 designated sites:
St. Rose Elementary
Harry Hurst Middle
Luling Elementary
R.K. Smith Middle
R.J. Vial Elementary
Meals will be served via pick-up or curbside at each site at the designated location. Meals provided will be based on the number of children present at the time of pick-up. An ID is not required to pick-up meals.
