Not only does our district have a summer feeding program (at a few schools, not all) but there is also a program during the year that provides food for the weekend. It is a popular volunteer activity, they pack up snack foods into gallon bags for teachers to discreetly put in students' backpacks on Fridays and holidays.

If a parent cannot provide any meals for their child without the school system stepping in they need to be removed from the home

Bc there’s this fiction that millions of American kids are starving and need school lunches to survive. And who wants to be blamed for starving kids?

There's a ton of parents out there that can't afford to feed their kids. It's a complicated issue, but it all boils down to kids not being able control who spits them out.

Unfortunately, some kids only eat at school or really don’t eat much else once they get home. So the taxpayer is on the hook for feeding them. But that’s one thing I don’t mind my taxes going to.

I don’t mind it either, but where exactly are all these hungry kids? There is inexpensive food available everywhere. Obesity is a bigger concern.

There was a woman pushing for an increase last week on Broomes FB page
At some point something will have to change though

I think your are over-estimating the ability of the country to place needy children in quality homes or situations. Also underestimating the number of children in this scenario.

Almost no one realizes that the school lunch program was done per the request of the dept. of defense. During the start in WW2 the kids coming out of the depression were undraftable due to issues caused from malnutrition. The government didn’t want this to happen again and knew the only place they could ensure kids got at least one good meal a day was at school.

Food Banks. I just volunteered at one last week with my son. We were on the packing line. One box of food could feed a senior citizen for 10 days. There was a regular store in the front that able bodied people could come and get their groceries. Of course done people will lash out at this. Probably the same ones that go to Church every Sunday and pray. Bunch of hypocrites.
