Why are private school teachers paid less than public ones in LA?

When working at a charter school, on average, you are more likely to get paid less than the private or public school teachers. Because charter schools are run by for-profit companies, there is little incentive to pay teachers more than absolutely have to. Also, there is a culture of encouraging a high turnover rate to “keep things fresh,” although in reality it just makes it easier for schools to offer lower wages and benefits. Furthermore, many charter schools discourage or ban unions, making collective bargaining for higher wages essentially impossible.
quote:
On the whole, you will find less charter school opportunities than you will with other forms of education. Private schools are slightly more plentiful than charter schools, but still, you’re likely to find fewer opportunities than public schools. As far teaching opportunities go, public schools have the most diverse and plentiful options available. You can go to any state in the union and comparatively have a far better chance of finding employment.
But Louisiana has both a high demand and supply of private/charter schools.

They don't require hazard pay.

They don't have to be a black belt in jiu jitsu or wear a bullet proof vest.

A lot of private school teachers are in it for free or discounted tuition for their children.

They accept a pay cut in exchange for the opportunity to sleep with a better educated student.

Amazing how government ruins the market.

40th in pay
Well Louisiana is generally 48th or worse in education so, yes, they are overpaid.

Because there's no free market to dictate supply and demand in the labor force.
The simple answer is because the government is paying the public school teachers, and so they're playing with house money. Naturally, if one is doing that, they DGAF about how wisely they use it.
*Disclaimer: Many moons ago, I went to and graduated from a public school. Several of my teachers were some of the finest people I've ever known.

Some are willing to work for less to not have to teach in public schools. Many also let teacher's kids attend at a discounted rate.

The reason why private teachers don't make a lot of money is because they don't compete in the free market. Their competition is a wholly subsidized industry.

Private school teachers are either retired teachers or have rich husbands.
It’s a private school, so they don’t get taxpayer money. They have to get all their money from tuition/endowments.

Just one of the many negative effects of a teachers being in s union, there is no correlation between competence and pay.

In Florida, my wife made $10,000 less in a top 3 school district in the state. The money paid to teachers has nothing to do with how well kids will do in school.
Now shes at a "good" LA public school and is taking the paycut to go to private for many reasons.
