I doubt very much that this is the reason that most choose to teach at a private school.

This was a long time ago, so maybe things are different.

When I was in 6th grade, Catholic elem school, early 90s, a friend of mine's father (friend was in my class) was laid off. He worked at a bank. This was toward end of 6th grade.

Friend's family including the father were very involved in the church parish.

Well, there ends up being an opening for 7th grade social studies teacher, and the school ends up hiring him.

He was freaking awful. No experience as a teacher before, I'm sure didn't pass any certifications, I'm not totally sure he had a college degree.

During the Christmas season my mom took me to Dillard's I think, to shop for clothes, and we saw him working there, and I thought it was really weird to see a teacher working at Dillard's.

Over Christmas break, he got a job at another bank, and was no longer teaching.

We then had 3 subs who finished out the year, each stayed for about a month or two until the year was over.

For 8th grade, they hired a teacher with experience who stayed entire year.

Teachers go there because they can't pass the PRAXIS.

I can't imagine a school hiring full time teachers that are not certified. That would be crazy.

If there is one thing I've learned m, it's that if you go to a poor enough area you'll find many ridiculous things.

I would have to see it to believe it.

It's very common in LA parochial schools. I know many high school coaches that teach subjects like civics and history and none of them are certified. A few of them wanted to go to larger public schools but couldn't pass the PRAXIS II exam, so they changed careers altogether.

It's not a clear cut metric though. There are a lot of terrible, certified teachers out there.

So this is an excerpt from an article from the Washington Post:

No, private schools aren't better at educating kids than public schools. ... Despite evidence showing otherwise

So statistically speaking, private schools are better at teaching. But they aren’t because.... well because.

At least 2/3rds of the archdiocese of new orleans elementary schools will hire them.

My wife (no pics) is a private school teacher (here in AL). She gets paid less but does not have to put up with a lot of the crap that goes on in the public system.

Whatever extra money she might have made in public system would have been offset by her increased alcohol consumption, in order to have to deal with the little bastards.

I can see a coach teaching PE, but I would not send my kid to a school where the subject teachers were not certified.
