There you go, comparing those people to animals.

Maybe being able to pay the Doctor visits and the hospital. Providing a roof over the baby's head that is not Government Housing and some modicum of insurance for the parents and child. I dunno, but how is that for starters?

So well to do people who make good money but have children with chronic illnesses or genetic issues should have not had kids because they can't afford the treatments?
These responses are all hilarious. For the vast vast majority of people, there isn't enough money or property you can have that makes you "financially stable" with respect to having kids. If everyone waited for that moment, parents wouldn't start having kids until they are 45+.

More children= more money
Where have you been?

Do you think we're lumping these people in with those who have children knowing from the beginning that they can't afford to support a fully healthy baby?
Do you think it's the same thing?

One can be financially stable by simply having a steady job to account for bills. Do you think that's attainable?

As alluded too, 13k is a per year average. The younger the kids but not babies, you will more than likely be on the lower end. However, once you start factoring cars, insurance, pre teen endless hunger, etc. you will creep up.
Cars are only 3/18 years you raise a child. And who says my kids can't work and pay at least some of those car related expenses (mine will). I know food costs will go up. What I'm telling you is I know what I spend on them, and it's not close to $13k a year, and it won't average that over the course of 18 years either.

I feel like it's common sense: Wait until you're financially stable before having children. But you never hear this. You don't hear it in school, in church, in the media... or anywhere.
Not true. My parent (mother) pounded it into my head.

He is a probably a Democrat. No one walks into a baby being born and planning on their child having problems. That is a given. I donate to St Jude and Shriners Hospital that help with a special needs child.
The housing things, alot of people have good jobs and a decent level of income and chose to rent. Hell, sometimes I wish I did.
I wonder if he is Doc dolling in the money from the gubberment? He just wanted to walk down the SJW path

In a world of impulse... well, that's the reason.

Over a grand a month per kid? Some of you are doing it wrong.
Childcare here is $2000/kid. I mean you're already in the hole at age 1.

I think he's using acedotal evidence as proof that the number (even though shown and proved in multiple articles across all political spectrum) is false.
I'm sure he doesn't take into account where you live nor the quality of life you provide for your children.
Some people have different views when it comes to QoL.

it's not mine or anyone else's business whether someone can afford their child...

Of course it was anecdotal. I never alluded that it was anything else. I just happen to think that if you're spending that much on your child there is probably fat you can trim. My kids are well taken care of teenagers and they've never cost me over a grand a month. That's factoring in extra living space and all that and I live in one of the more expensive markets. I'd love to see a breakdown that because I'm confident I can find waste.

If you lived in NYC would you send your kid to a daycare that cost less than $2k/month?
I mean the options start getting medieval at some point.

This is why we have abortion clinics. Don't bitch about abortions then turn around and ask why people are having "children they can't afford".
Posted on 4/26/17 at 5:20 pm to NYNolaguy1
Again, it's anecdotal, but my wife stayed home with our kids. We chose to do that. Nothing says you have to have your kids in daycare.

The places that you can do this are in less populated and lower cost of living areas.
Which is fine, but you shouldn't extrapolate you being able to afford a home on one income and then assume that is the standard across the country. That population of households is shrinking I believe.
The sad part is both of us have white collar jobs and are in the 90th something percent for income. If one of us weren't working we would be in floating the line between losing money and gaining money.
We can afford it, but to assume the other 90% can would be a false assumption.

If you're in my Civics/Free enterprise class you damn sure hear it. I shame the hell outta mofo's who work the system or shrug off personal accountability. My crew basically adopts a mob mentality against freeloaders, slackers, and overreaching governtment by the time they leave my course.
