It also happens in other countries where the gubments don't cut checks.

Because having a bunch of kids you can't afford is now a full time career....gets you free section 8 housing, free cell phone, food stamps, utilities. Why go to work 40 hours a week when you can sit at home on the taxpayers' dime while you watch all them chirrin someone else is paying for.

I was about to say the same thing. 4 kids here as well. $13k a year is way more than I spend on each kid

When you factor in needing a bigger house, increased utility costs, more school expenses, more driving around, higher medical costs, higher grocery bill, etc, I imagine the 13k figure is closer to being correct than you think. Also, the 13k is an average over an 18 year period. I don't know how old your kids are, but I've noticed a significant increase in expenses every year that passes. You may very well be under the 13k/per mark, but I am not. And we don't live a luxurious lifestyle by any means. Hell, if you take a family of 5 on a "cheap" vacation for a week per year you're looking at 2-3 grand right there. I know vacations and other luxuries aren't included in the figures because they aren't necessary, but they are part of giving a kid the best possible childhood

ive always said if you are in a certain income bracket you should be eligible for a one time payment of $10,000 TAX FREE by the government if you get your tubes tied or a vasectomy.

This program would save the future millions if not billions.

I say this as well.

- Welfare recipient list is where you draw the names from.
- Mandatory class on the implications of a vasectomy
- No government financed reversals

Cradle to the grave benefits .. I see this every damn day at the pharmacy. All these kids people can't afford. It's not that hard to not get pregnant.

I don't doubt some people spend $13k a year on their kids. I'm telling you I am nowhere near that. And my older two are heavily involved in sports. We just rarely eat out, our kids are rarely sick, we don't buy them everything they ask for, and we don't really have a large house (3 bedroom).

Look at mankind now...if we only had financially stable people having kids, there'd be no slumdog millionaire movie, no Albert Einstein, no ninjas or kung fu masters, no Robin hood...

We do plenty enough already to teach kids to be materialistic. You want churches and schools to do more?

And this isn't a class warfare argument. You don't have to be "rich" to give a child a good life.

What standard are you using to pass judgment on other people's lives?

So, having a steady job qualifies as "financially stable," is that what you are saying?

What if my "steady job" pays $12/hr with no benefits?

How much money do I need to be making to have kids?

I do this. Under 35. But I am fortunate to have a wife that makes the same as I do, so that puts us in the

Sadly the only people that can do this are the top 5% and lower 20%. The catch though is that by the time most are financially stable enough to have kids they are 40+.

Maybe it's just me living in a big city, but honestly I don't know how people afford kids when daycare is $2000+/month/kid. Who can pay $4000/month to send two kids to daycare? When you can pay that, are you under 35?

How do some of you not see the doom of Western civilization in this post?

Cost of kid

Here's a 2017 article with dollar amounts included.

As alluded too, 13k is a per year average. The younger the kids but not babies, you will more than likely be on the lower end. However, once you start factoring cars, insurance, pre teen endless hunger, etc. you will creep up.

There is no easier path to ruining your life than having a child young without a stable relationship with the father. It saddens me how many girls destroy any hope of having a normal life because they're too dumb to take basic responsibility.

A lot of people have kids they have no business having because their church tells them that they will burn in some imaginary realm of fire and brimstone and demons. Then when they actually have the kid instead of doing the right thing for everyone involved and putting the kid up for adoption they let their emotions get the better of them and decide to keep the kid even though mom and the baby daddy don't have the resources to take care of it.

Its only the rich and the poor who can afford to have kids. Its how they are killing off the middle class.

Better question is why do conservatives get all pissed about welfare, but also get all pissed about giving people free and easy access to birth control/abortion/condoms?

I have wondered that exact same thing for ever!!!!!
