Reservations have their own police and courts, so many of these issues look internal to me, regarding gun violence. However, federal law does apply, and tribal members may actually understand that if they are convicted at the Federal level it would mean having to serve 85% of the sentence on multiple years. Could it be a deterrent? That’s up for debate.

Do people really think the term "savage" was just highly-strategic negative-PR?

This was the PR utilized by those that that wanted to dispossess them. It was very strategic, sinister, and effective.

Those same people are now trying to use the term white supremacy to the same effect.

This is a damn good question. Two thoughts come to mind:

1. Most Indian reservations are fairly rural in nature as opposed to the environment other high-crime populations find themselves in.

2. Most Indian tribes have an autonomous law enforcement/ justice system.

I wouldn’t know, but I’d guess the sense of community among native Americans with their tribal heritage probably lends itself to more effective self policing.

You're overthinking it in this clown world, because both of those points would be mutilated by the left as "privilege."

Weren't you aware that space and rural settings are privilege and having an autonomous LE/justice/medical system is privilege to the nth degree?

Your 2 points are reinforcing a certain segment's talking points...hell you might as well give it the trifecta and talk about food baron deserts while at it.

Tribal courts are worthless. They love to banish people, which just makes them someone else's problem.

This is true. Not sure about out west, but here banishment also requires tribal council approval. It’s a big deal that can result in land/property seizures.

Because there are no regulations in Chicago and Washington, right? If that’s the strength of your argument you lost.

people in this thread are acting like native american communities dont have a real issue with regards to violent crime and that just isnt true. its a significant issue. specifially rape and other kinds of aggravated assaults

like more than 1/3 of all women living on a reservation will be raped and you are like 3x more likely to be involved in an aggravated robbery if you live on a reservation
