Wild to me that the average age of first marriage in Louisiana is ~30. I would’ve figured it was closer to mid-20’s. Obviously it’s going to be higher in bigger cities and with more educated folks, but I know tons of people in the Acadiana/rural areas who got married shortly after undergrad.

Appears that "red states" are marrying at a younger age over their "blue state" counterparts.
Also the difference between the low and high end of this graphic is 7.3 which is actually much lower than the expected "50% of marriages end in divorce."
Side note: Is Colorado a "red state?" nvm, got Wyoming and Colorado mixed up but appears that Colorado has a higher rate than Texas.

I tell you why that marriage rate in Louisiana is at 41% because all dem single mommas want to stay single and pump out them kids. More government assistance when you ain't married FACT. This not just a black woman issue but a pertains to poor and uneducated women issue

People here love to bring all their half-baked political gotchas into threads like this.
But, the most obvious factor is simply that rural, conservative areas have more people with the primary life goal of marrying young and having kids.
Urban areas and those with a higher percentage of people with college/post-grad educations simply have more people who wait until later in life to get married.
Obviously good and bad decisions are made by both, but the later in life crowd are probably a little more likely to make wiser marriage decisions.

Sorry, my man. You posted "data" related to the high numbers. The highest numbers on that map were in Arkansas and Wyoming. It's a big red rectangle near the center. My bad for noticing.

Higher likelihood of teenage pregnancy that ends horribly because the father doesn't care.
Traditionally having a stay at home mom lifestyle isn't affordable anymore so baws will divorce and worry about it later.
High school sweetheart marriages way more commonplace and end up not working out because you should almost never end up marrying your high school crush.
Culture in the South has expectations for a home on a huge property in the middle of nowhere with a used Tahoe and at least three kids by the age of 24.
In the Midwest there are less aspirations to leave where you're from and you decide to settle with someone from your small town you have known all your life.
