Roses are red,
Violets are bluish,
If it wasn't for Jesus,
We'd all be Jewish.

Same. Stop giving foreign aid, let them work it out.

Seems just a few months ago we had no issues in the ME. In fact, we were headed toward peace.

Yeah. I don't get it either. People get really heated about who you support and why and I just don't care about either.

Let them fight.

I had this discussion with a buddy yesterday. I asked how he could really pick a side. We mutually agreed to let them fight and if Palestine doesn't like being bombed, they shouldn't launch bombs first.

Christianity surrounded by Muslims

Do what?

There are more Christians in each of Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine than there are in Israel.

I don’t care one single bit about Israel, but the more Muslims they kill, the better.

Muslims have had better relations with Jews than Christians have had with Jews. For starters, Muslims and Jews are often both Semites.

There is obviously the religious aspect of it, but there is also the simple fact that many would prefer that area be controlled by an ally in Israel rather than a clear enemy like Hamas.

Evangelicals are a huge voting block, and they care, largely because Revelation claims that all Jews in exile will return to the Holy Land before the second coming of Christ. Loads of Americans either have relatives living in Israel or feel a religious/ethnic affinity to Israel.

Israel is also one of the largest purchaser of American military hardware. Moreover, Israel is a large recipient of American foreign aid, mostly in the form of military aid and we require 3 fourths of that aid to be spent purchasing American goods.

Israel shares loads of intelligence with us, and are seen as a major ally in our war against terrorism and radical Islamic countries. Apart from that of course it's great for the U.S. to have an extremely close ally in a strategically important place, the Middle East.

I think pettifogger pretty well nailed it. As did the poster who notes the US has the second largest Jewish population of any nation on earth.

As far as the non Jewish population and their support for Israel probably comes down to how closely the Christian and Jewish religions are intertwined.

Sure . Nearly two thousand years of constant persecution of Jews by Christians. Culminating in the near eradication of them during WW2. Some intertwining

Must be Christian guilt over their progroms, expulsions, anti semitism & genocide.

At a base level: Israel has nukes and if they were say overrun by Hamas, then a terrorist organization would have nukes.

I’m pro-Israel but there are plenty of dickheads there that are just as interested in eternal strife as Hamas.

They were at a historic truce a year ago brokered by the US.

I'd say them returning to a real military battle is extremely frustrating.

Maybe because it's the only democratic bastion among religious zealot jihadic nightmare countries.

1. Their pastors tell them to be

2. Politicians who receive a lot of money from AIPAC tell them to be

Myself, I don't give a flying frick about what goes on in the middle east. Not our problem. It should not concern us at all. I don't care. If they want to fight, let them fight, and we need to stay out of it. Period.

Tired of throwing away taxpayer dollars in the middle east.

Israel is the only democracy in the ME and will always have our back and we theirs. Weave in the religious connection and it's easy to see why Americans feel such a connection to them.

Israel has its faults but they are an important ally in the Middle East. They protect our interests by keeping Iran (mostly) in check. Israel pays for providing that protection, however, with rocket attacks from Iranian-backed terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah. The least we can do in return is offer them some measure of support when they are threatened or attacked.

Christians went from the overall belief that Jews should be converted, to some strange ideology that they were God's chosen people who get a pass from accepting Christ.

I know many Christians who actually believe that jews/Israelis automatically get into heaven because they are jewish and "God's people".

I ask "So what the hell did Jesus die for then?"

They are both horrible and deserve each other.
