Brother in law did MIT in 3 years and is working on his PhD at Stanford now.
Father in law has a PhD from Georgia Tech in chemistry.
Mother in law is an electrical engineer from GT with a masters in analytics.
Step-mother in law got her MD from Columbia.
I’m for sure the dumbest at the family gatherings.

Leon Lederman
He gave my 1st wife and I a tour of Fermilab.
We had to be crafty to get past his security.
He was more interested in my wife then I, but she was the fanboy.
It was eye-opening to see memos on his cubicle walls about letter bombs, and a drawer in a cabinet labeled "Nobel prize congratulation letters"
It was fun...

All different sorts of intelligence.
Some people are wizards working metal or wood. Some are geniuses on an instrument.
Just because someone has degrees has never impressed me. Real intelligence is hard to fake. But pretenders are easily Sussed out

Great subtle brag on marrying up
Haven’t seen that many in laws since I got married

Friend from college is a neurosurgeon. Aced every class he ever thought about taking, so plausibly him. But a friend's dad left school in 8th grade, served in Vietnam and was one of those guys who could reverse-engineer anything put in front of him. He got into manufacturing, and is a very wealthy man in Florida.
Shoulda latched onto his daughter.

I’d say the British accent with the Harvard Kennedy School degree surrounded got me thinking this lady I met was the most intelligent person ever.

Chicken.
Anyone who can turn shitty coozies into a collectors item is a certified genius.

A neurologist I worked with when I first started in the field. Would always come through the department at weird hours throughout the night. Wouldn't say a word, just an awkward nod/wave. I asked my Dad what the deal was with him since he had worked with him previously. He said, "He's so much smarter than you, he doesn't know how to talk on your level," which I took as my Dad messing with me.
Come to find out he was basically Doogie Howser. Graduated high school at 12, LSU at 16, and was a doctor at 20. That's really why he couldn't talk to anyone. He had zero social skills. Once he found out I played with some guys that were playing for LSU at the time, you couldn't get him to shut up.
Really great guy honestly.
His daughter is a surgeon now. She made perfect on the ACT as a freshman in high school. So maybe she's even smarter than him?

I’ve met a few astronauts over the years, so I reckon them.
There’s also my ex brother-in-law, who thought he was the smartest person anyone would ever meet.

Me when I hit 30 (I'm 59); it was then that I realized just how little I really knew.

Smart can be a vague term.
I know some folks with photographic memory but if you can not use that information with intuitive improvisation I am not sure it defines smart. I have an autistic cousin who can read a large book and then retype it from memory but he is not able to use that ability in a practical matter.
I think there is also a liberal arts smart and a math and science smart.
Just out the gate, I had a friend in high school that was at a Kevin Mitnick level. He used in in fun ways such as inventing a device where he could drive down a street and all of the garage doors would start opening and closing. He was making crazy money in the 80s in high school because of what he could do with computers at that time.
