Progressing into college and beer pong, a straight line of cups was called Bozo.

The cubs owe a debt of gratitude to WGN due to the swath of fans they have littered throughout the southern US.

It was a weird time when the nation followed local Atlanta and Chicago news.
Ted had TBS. Who owned WGN during that time?
Whoever owned the Chicago Tribune “the World’s Greatest Newspaper.”

Those early days of cable were so cool. We first had something called Cable 1 with like 50 channels....no movie channels. Pops would say that he was now paying for tv, but at least he can kill some time figuring out that there wasn't shite to watch before he turns it off.

We would watch this every morning in the 80s while eating breakfast before school. For years.

Yep. I’d watch while getting ready for elementary school.

It was a sad day when the national WGN feed turned into a run of the mill cable channel. They held out longer than TBS as a true “superstation.”
588-2300 is more deeply imbedded in my brain than 867-5309 is.

There were some serious unathletic arse clowns on that show that couldn’t make a ping pong ball in a cup

My sister won a package from them because her name got picked from the drum of entries.

I’ve never seen a kid win the Grand Prize Game. It’s like Big Foot, or the Loch Ness Monster.

The first cup was so close, all you had to do was bend down and drop it in.

I recall as a kid getting irrationally angry when some dweeby kid would miss the first bucket. “How did you miss?! t’s right there!!! Just drop the ping-pong ball in the fricking bucket!!!”
I had no shot of ever being on Bozo and we have these losers in Chicago just WASTING chances to win a crisp $50 bill and new bike!!!

I often reminisce of sinking the last shot. There was zero doubt I would make it to the next-to-last bucket, but to finish it off, was the finish that I had doubting myself. That crisp $50 was just close enough…yet so far…

I remember when Showbiz Pizza and Chuck E Cheese had the bucket game. I played that all the time.
Nothing like the original WGN. Bozo, the Cubs and the Bulls in the 90’s.

Tribune also owned WGNO in New Orleans before getting out of broadcasting a few years ago selling to Nexstar.
I found it funny WGNO did not have a straight up Bozo spin off with the Tribune ownership, but the did have Tom Foote, I believe. I had a signed wooden plane by him.
In New Orleans, you had the 1970’s juggernaut of Popeye and Pals on WWL and later WNOL.
What a way to spend a morning or afternoon, watching cartoons and eating fried chicken, and a chance to win a Snoopy cake. There are a few clips on YouTube. Don Westbrook was the announcer and they hired a fat Olive Oil look a like.
They also stole the Bob Barker microphone to interview the children.
Popeye and Pals 1981
Now with KidVid programming requirements, and efforts to promote nutrition, a show like this would be hard to produce.
