I cannot pinpoint one singular person as the "funniest of all time"

Carlin, Pryor, Dangerfield, Murphy, Rock are my top candidates, though.

Paul Lynde.

When Peter Marshall was asking the question, the camera would cut to Lynde, and I was laughing before he even gave his answer.

He was one of the few comedians that would laugh at his own jokes and it absolutely worked for him.
