I got whipped with a switch and a belt all the damn time.
I spank my daughter with my open hand on the behind. She is 4, and I can't remember the last time I had to spank her. I just yell "excuse me" and give her the stink eye, and she melts and runs to her room.

They called it whipped, I more remember slapped around more...either way I deserved it.

I've tried spanking my child, and she just laughs it off every single time. Using any more force would feel excessive to me, so we've moved on to time out in her room. It's worked much better. She's about to turn 2.
Every kid is different though. The next one might respond to spanking differently. I don't judge how others choose to parent (within reason
)
ETA: I wasn't spanked often as a child, but did get dad's belt a few times. That was an excellent behavior modifier.

Still keep the belt in my parental toolbag for if they ever cross a major line as should every parent. I've said it before and I'll say it again: every other animal in the world uses physicality to correct their offspring and none of them have needed counseling for it.

I got the belt a few times as a child, maybe a dozen times total.
My oldest is a stubborn, rebellious kid and has received one or two legit spankings. Legit as in calmly told him what was about to happen, why, and then a few firm spanks on the arse. The rest of the time a quick pat with a menacing look does the trick.
Middle child has gotten the quick pat only a few times. He's a softy and a stern voice usually stops him in his tracks. Youngest is too young to even think about that.

I don't whip my kids. Not to say I'm opposed to it I just have not had a situation to where it was needed. We kind of got lucky I guess. Kids don't act out in public or really do much of anything to warrant it yet.

I did whip my kids until a year or so ago. now the punishment is taking away something they love and making the stand in corner for an appropriate time.
If what they did was so bad, just the threat of a spanking is enough to get the message across
I'm looking for discipline and respect from my children. You cant get that if they are scared of you hitting them (even if on the bottom)

Me. I was whipped heavily as a child and it had no effect on my behavior. My children listen better than I did and we dont whip them.
