Same here with me.
Learned to drive in my dad's 67 Chevy truck with column shift.
I remember that clutch pedal was hard to push in.

Leaned on a 3 on the tree

Both of my grandfathers had farm trucks with 3 on the tree. Both of them taught me to drive those trucks. It’s been a while but I guess I can still do it.

I could probably drive it better if the gear shift lever was broken and it laid beside me on the seat until time to shift. The only vehicle I ever drove with 3 on the tree was my grandfathers old farm truck where the lever had become a seat accessory.

66 El Camino, 283 and 3 on the tree. If you didn't hold the shifter up and go straight into second it would hang up and then you'd have to open the hood to get it out of a bind. 71 half cab Bronco with 200 I6 and PTO out front, it was hell in the woods on 7.50-16 Co-ops.
See how many youngsters can figure that one out.

Me - The ole man had and old GMC pickup we used to drive to haul trash and stuff
Seems like it was only a three speed with "back down" being reverse

I learned to drive in my dads '67 Econoline van with 3 on the tree. We used to load the dirt bikes in it and take it to Chipola on the weekends.
Good memories.

What I turned 16 I took my drivers license test in a ‘71 C10 with 3 on the tree.

In high school: Vauxhall four on the steering column
First car: Jeepster 4 on the floor
Second car: Peugeot 504 4 on the floor
Third car: Dodge something (inherited) enough on the column
Then big city traffic and automatics of necessity.

My grandfather had a ‘72 Toyota Landcruiser with 3 on the tree that I learn to drive on. It was his farm and hunting truck. Don’t think it was possible to get that thing stuck.
Would do anything to find that old thing.

Somebody has probably restored that FJ40 and wants $80k for it.

My first car had three on a tree. The first vehicles I drove were 40s-era trucks with floor starters and floor shifters.

My parents' 63 Falcon wagon had the three speed on the steering column, with a straight six. My dad used to overhaul the engine in the back yard.
They gave it to my brother in 1969. He brought it to LSU in 1973. It had one of those old Mike the Tiger coming out of Tiger Stadium decals on the back window. It burned out manifold gaskets every so often. Sounded like a tank coming down the road. We always called it The Blue Flame.
ETA: When he was driving it in high school, he had mud grips on it. With that manual transmission, it would sling some mud. We got it stuck a few times.

Drove an old Plymouth 3 on the tree and the 2nd - 3rd shift was a PITA compared to anything on the floor.

Learned on a '68 Chevy C10 stepside in the early '80s. Drove it to school and elsewhere.

I learned to drive in a 72 El Camino with a column shift.
El Camino is Spanish for the Camino.
