I learned how to drive on a 1967 Chevrolet pickup. I was fourteen and it was tough to press the pedals, shift and drive at the same time.

Standard shift on the column. H shift pattern.

I would love to drive one today.

I taught my 15 year old high school girlfriend how to drive it too. She got to be pretty smooth. She wouldn’t grind the gears.

After that the only grinding was in the bed of the truck parked in a sugarcane field somewhere.

Three on the tree?

It's no harder than a regular stick shift.

1968 Chevy Fleetside 3 on the tree and I still have it. It’s a bit rough but I guarantee if I charge the battery it will go.

I've never driven one with it on the column but I drove manual transmissions for the first 16 years of my driving.

My grandpa’s 65 Chevy truck had column shift. I already knew how to drive stick, so it was easy to adjust to that.

The back end was super light, so it would get out of control cornering and letting off the clutch.

3 on the tree.

1st truck was a '76 ford. Complete with 8 track player and a leftover copy of a glen Campbell 8-track.

Like a rhinestone cowboy!!

And for the record all of my kids can drive manual transmissions on the column and floor in big trucks and small cars. Which they are a minority. (They also can change a tire)

It’s the same as on the floor. Pattern is different, but same mechanics

I drove a three on the tree work truck for years

First truck was that same truck. Terrible powder blue color. Had to have a plate welded to the back bumper to be able to pull up my little 16 foot flat boat. Loved that truck.

3 on the tree - learned to drive one on our '78 Chevy farm truck. Little challenging when you are 12 making that transition from 1 to 2. Big reach.
