I've never had the opportunity to drive one. I daily drove a manual for years so no problem there. It would be fun to try.

My first car was a 1972 Chevy Chevelle 4dr, 3 on the tree.

I wonder if any BLM rioters/supporters can drive a standard transmission... I doubt it.

I learned to drive in a 67 Saab 3 cylinder, 2 cycle engine, front wheel drive with a 4 speed on the column, that got 40 mpg. This was back in 72, fun times.

Saw them driven all the time but by the time I was just old enough to drive around in a pasture, Pop and dad didn't have a 3 on the tree anymore. I wonder if kids today could figure out how we used to turn on the high beams

First truck was that same truck. Terrible powder blue color. Had to have a plate welded to the back bumper to be able to pull up my little 16 foot flat boat. Loved that truck.

Mine was Royal Blue. I forgot about the plate. I did the same.

One of my fishing buddies had a VW Bug. We had a clamp on bumper hitch.

Before they elevated the straight stretch on upper Bayou DuLarge the roadway would flood. Two or three guys would have to get on the front bumper to lift the rear engine out of the water.

I had some great times as a kid.

Yep, first vehicle was an '81 f100 with a straight 6 and a 3 on the tree.

That 300 ci in-line 6 was a great motor.
I bought one with 200,000 miles on it, put another quarter million on it ( changed the oil every year or two..) Then sold it for what I paid for it.

I also had a ‘76 GMC stepside pickup. It rusted away. GM built crappy vehicles then.

We put the motor in a trenasse machine. Cleaned miles and miles of ditch with it for years.
Great motor.

On the column, on the floor for cars, trucks and heavy equipment and by foot for the many motorcycles I've owned over the years.

I laugh when I see videos of hood rats trying to carjack a person only to find out the car has a standard transmission and they haven't a clue how to drive it.

ETA: First car was a 54 Plymouth Plaza with 3 on the tree, turn a key on and hit the button on the floor like a dimmer switch to start it. Flathead 6 with a 6 volt electric system and positive ground. Damn car built like a tank.

Had a 79 F150 with three on the tree, and after it broke, replaced it with a Hurst on the floor.

Me and my four siblings learned to drive in a 1971 Ford Maverick with “three on the tree”. We destroyed that POS. Over time the reverse linkage broke in the column. Had to open the hood and move the linkage manually every time to go in reverse. Damn good memories

My dad had an old Ford with a 3 on the tree but I was too young to drive it. Ford also had a version with an overdrive so you had 6 forward gears instead of 3, even though you only shifted the shifter 3 times.
