Who here has read "Murder in the Bayou" about the Jeff Davis 8?

I have about 40 pages left and I can't wrap my head around all the info (some of it speculation) in this book.
The guy that wrote it is a private investigator from the NOLA area I believe and does a good job going into details that no media articles covered about the case.
Some highlights:
Deputies from Jeff Davis and Calcasieu Parish involved in the drug trade including confiscating drugs on I10 only to enlist local dealers to sell it for them
Deputies having sex with the 8 dead women
The coroner who has since died of cancer telling victims families and friends there were cover ups and that the police were involved.
Warden of the jail having sex with the women while they were in jail in exchange for freeing them
One deputy had a sex dungeon in his trailer and made tapes of him and his wife having 3'somes with some of the dead women
How the pimp Frankie Richard had relationships deeply connected in the Sheriff department explaining why is he still free even though he has a huge wrap sheet and suspected in at least two of the murders
One lead investigator helping clean one of the vehicles used in one of the murders. He bought the truck then cleaned it and flipped it for a $8K profit.
Mishandling of informants.
It details the day of the murders from the start to discovery of the bodies and highlights info in official and unofficial reports.
The 8 women were not the only victims. People involved were being shot long after the last women died.
It even goes as far back as the Ellender and KK Corners murders in Lake Charles questioning if Richard Mcelveen was involved because the former Jennings Chief of Police worked for CPSO at the time and allegedly was involved with Richard in the drug trade then.
I am sure I am forgetting a lot because it's a lot to digest but it is fascinating look into just how corrupt the drug and sex trade is/was in Jennings.

This is some True Detective shite.

Sadly a lot of it actually happened. Like I said, the book has some speculation, but it also has official accounts from police reports from people involved and witnesses.

I read it a year or more ago and can't remember all the details. I do remember thinking that if even one of the things the guy mentions is true some people at the sheriff's dept should go to jail, not to mention if most or all of it's true.
Pretty sure the sheriff's son was implicated heavily in some murders/drug dealings as well.
Sheriffs are some of the most powerful people in the state and can basically get away with a ton.
ETA: Could probably get a good discussion going on the book board.

The guy that wrote True Detective grew up in Lake Charles I believe. He definitely used some of Louisiana screwed up happenings for the basis of True Detective. I'm pretty sure he used some of the incidents referred to in this book.

I Went to church with ellenders wife's dad. I Never believed prudomme did it alone or the devil Worship Angle.
Not surprising these are connected to the other cases and the mcwlveens.

There was a long thread on here full of details and accounts by a few posters from the Jennings area. I’ll search for it when I get a second. It was very interesting.

You'd be surprised at what coroners know and what they are asked to do via bribes. My father was a coroner in Louisiana for a year. He quit and left the State the same day in fear for his life, circa 1979. He wouldn't return to Louisiana for over 30 years. The corruption in Louisiana is bigger than you could ever imagine.

Absolutely....there are sheriff's in this area that run their parishes like kingdoms....Ricky Edwards, former sheriff of Jeff Davis Parish, was one of those.

Can someone tell me why Parker Gary isn't in prison in Louisiana but Ryan Cole is?
They were charged with 1st degree murder of Gary's Grandfather Warren Gary, who was involved in the Jeff Davis 8.
two arrested for muder of Warren Gary in Jeff Davis Parish

Have you never watched a women's prison movie? I assume this happens everyday all over the country.

I read an article that also said there was a Representative or senator that would frequent there for the drugs and sex.

I feel like I've read this thread before... Oddly enough, like word for word.
At first I thought it was an old thread that got bumped.
Am I the only one that thought this?
