A patient had a grand mal seizure in my office last year. It was a first episode for her.

I provided emergency assistance and my girls activated our emergency response protocol. The EMTs got here in 2-3 minutes tops and took over.

I have never ever been so happy to see someone before in my life. The patient is doing well and actually was thankful that she had her first seizure in my office rather than at home alone with her young son.

I did in 2002.

A pipeline a diver was working on blew up killing him and injuring the crew working on the boat.

I would be livid as well but that is what 911 is for

Well ya who wouldn't be thankful they were at a doctors office while having an unexpected medical emergency, besides the hospital there is no better place.

I encountered a similar situation once, a neighbor of mine. Turned out he was diabetic and was having problems related to that, they fixed him up and he made a full recovery.

Once back in '06. My grandfather called me saying he was having trouble breathing. I hauled arse out to his house and he was going into congestive heart failure. Called 911 and the ambulance came and they took care of him. Scared the shite out of me.

When I was at LSU I was walking into the quad from one of the buildings and the girl in front of me started to open the door, but started convulsing and having a seizure in front me. She toppled forward and head first hit the divided between the two doors that lead outside. Then toppled back unconscious, she still had her book bag on. Me and another student turned her on her side supporting her neck and took off the bookbag, while a professor called LSU Emergency Services. She was still breathing but unconscious- once the EMTs showed up I left to go to my next class. EMT's were there in under 10 minutes.

Called twice:
1) Office that adjoins mine was catching fire due to an electrical short at the box on the outside wall (which was wood). Fire trucks arrived quickly and said that we did the right thing. All of the electronics in our office were fried by the related surges in power.

2) This one wasn't really an emergency but we didn't know what to do. My dog (golden retriever) got his back leg stuck in a wrought iron chair. The dog was in extreme pain (trembling). Vet arrived, sedated the dog, and tried to lubricate the leg to remove it. It would not budge so we called the fire department. They used an electric hacksaw to cut the leg off of the chair to release the dog. Dog is fine and piece from chair leg has been glued back.

1) Kids set a field on fire behind our old home ... was super dry and needed the FD quickly.

2) On two separate occasions we were following a drunk/seemingly impaired driver.

3) Was at work at a nursing home and YES 911 had to be called.

In high school I worked at a gas station and a guy drove up. I could tell something was off. He stumbled in and I automatically thought he was drunk. He got a snickers bar and and stumbled to the counter. He fell and hit his head pretty hard. I immediately called 911. He came to and said he didn't need an ambulance, his blood sugar was just low. I got him a chair and some water. He stood up and immediately fell back down. Fire department showed up 2 min later. Said he was dead before he hit the ground the second time. Had a massive heart attack. I heard the shuttering last breath and saw his eyes glass over. Something I'll never get out of my head.

I don't bother calling 911 anymore during emergencies. This is the real number to use.

I Houston we have a non- emergency number that I've called several times for break-ins or noise complaints when I lived by some gang bangers.

Only called 911 twice:
-An old woman collapsed outside of church in the time before cellphones so the priest asked me to call from the parish office because his English wasn't good.

-witnessed an accident on a freeway that sent two cars spinning out of control

Once for a motorcycle accident and another time for a dumpster fire, both in BR.

The other time was in NO for an 18-wheeler fire on I-610. This happened on my way to an LSU-UNO baseball game and it blocked all lanes just before my exit (Franklin Ave.) I got off 610 by driving down the Elysian Fields on-ramp. The truck was still there and traffic still backed up after the game.

I called once. Pulled into my apartment complex, a car was stopped and this dude was just beating the absolute shite out of his female passenger. He saw me watching and took off, leaving her on the ground. Against the advice of the operator, I tailed him for a bit to try and get his license plate info. I was freaking out and crying so I got a number or two wrong but I had a description of the car so I think they were still able to do SOMETHING with it.

The guy actually came back and the chick got in the car with him, I'm fairly certain she was a hooker...the cops were sent to the opposite side of the highway from my complex so by the time they got there, the dude was long gone. It was scary.

Not sure if they ever found him or not.
