I am considering this and can save about 2k. Is it easy? Dealer recs?

Yes it is easy.
Just make sure they get the taxes right or you will get a tax bill when you go to register.

Dealer will likely collect tax when you purchase, but if not you’ll pay the difference when you register. Other than that, there’s no difference

The Texas dealer collects LA taxes and Submits them to LA?

Dealer collected expected sales tax and registered the vehicle in Louisiana for me. Then sent a check to me because they over estimated the sales tax.

Yes.

When buying a car in another state, you'll pay sales tax in the state where you register the car, not the state where you purchased it.

One day drive plus gas to save 2K minimum. Sounds like I make about $200/hr.

Yes, it's not much different than buying in LA, except they're going to be shocked at your sales tax rate.

Have done it multiple times. Super easy. The bigger places know exactly how to handle it and you don't have to do anything different.

I've bought a vehicle from both TX(Houston, Sterling Mccall) and MS(Brandon, Gray Daniels Ford) and it was very simple. Was actually able to get both of the vehicles delivered to me at no additional cost too.

I've done it a couple of times, and it was no problem. The Texas dealer used my address to check my sales state rate, collected the tax from me (to remit to LA OMV), and registered the car in LA. I got the title and plates in the mail.
Just tell the dealer up front that you're from LA and ask how they will handle the registration.

Bought my last two vehicles in Dallas and saved right at $3K on each in terms of the exact same models, specs and mileage. One way flights from MSY and drove them back. Super easy and will go that route every time.

My dad recently did it. Saved about 8k

I purchased a vehicle in Beaumont once before while living in Louisiana. For me, it was worth the short drive due to the savings.
I also just bought another vehicle in December in Grapevine. One of the easiest transactions, regarding a vehicle, that I have ever done.

Done it several times. The license plate takes a lot longer to get to you, but otherwise it's been seamless, I recommend Mac Haik and Sterling Mccall.

I think it depends on the state. I don’t know how Texas does it. However, when I bought an out-of-state vehicle MANY YEARS ago, the dealership figured in the Louisiana taxes in the sale. I financed the car at the dealership. The dealership then cut me a check made payable to Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles. I used that check when I applied to register the car in Louisiana as payment of the taxes.
