In this particular case, you aren't paying $250-300 for the meal. You're paying that much for the sex after. If it keeps her happy and she reciprocates accordingly then you are getting a good deal in my opinion.

To me, going out vs. eating in is a double-edged sword. Either way, food costs the proverbial arm & leg. But I eat out once a week, max.

I wish we did this so we would appreciate it more. We probably eat out 4 times a week and I don’t even like to think about what we spend. It is absolutely never under $100.

I save so much money now that I’ve just about all but quit drinking.
Alcohol prices at restaurants / bars have to be one of the biggest ripoffs there is. Though the biggest is probably $8 for a “pour over” black coffee.

Two combos from Zaxby's will run you $30
And you can probably get a big seafood platter, order of steak fajitas etc. for takeout from local restaurants for that or less, and it will easily feed 2 people.
I certainly understand some people just want the experience, or time away from kids etc.

It's the wait for me. When the wife picks a place, she never does her homework(make a reservation/look at the menu). So when we get there she is surprised at the long wait. And then can't decide what she wants. All she knows is someone at work said it was good. For example we went to some place called the Rustic. Long arse wait time because she didn't know they took reservations. And the food, atmosphere sucked.
Who wants to wait almost an hour for bad food?
There's only 2 places that I will wait to be seated, and both of them have bars that you can sit in and drink. I go in knowing that it's going to be a wait, and that's part of the experience.
I'm not waiting if I go to a random restaurant

My husband is an excellent cook. We've quickly learned that for what it costs the two of us to eat out, we can buy food and cook for us and invite friends over. And so few restaurants in BR are worth the price any more.

agreed.
fricking sucks to pay $100-$150 for a 'meh' dinner and a couple of drinks.
we can make better food at home.

$300 for 2 people is insane you know you don't have to go to the fanciest places in town every time you go out to eat

Scruffy and the wife love going out to dinner.
Usually 2-3 date nights a month without the baby.
We take the baby out to dinner with usually another couple times a month.

AKA someone that expects a whole fricking “experience” every time they get something to eat. I’ve reached the curmudgeon level where I feel like most of these new places are trying to do too much and their dishes are needlessly complicated and the restaurants themselves are designed around being seen there on Instagram.

I enjoy going out to dinner a few times a month on the weekends, but a few weekends ago.. Actually, it was the weekend of the SEC baseball tournament I made a bad call. I had to go to the mall to have the lenscrafter doctor reexam my eyes (don't ever go there if your eyesight is worse than average eye sight loss with age). The doctor took a much longer time than expected. I was hoping to be home before the game started.
It was in the 3rd inning when I was done so wanting to see the game and being hungry I made the awful decision to go to Pluckers. Pretty much every tv had it on the lsu game which was the main reason going there. It was close and I knew the game would be on. It was around 3PM..Had a few tables with people, but by no means was it full. We had to wait about 10 mins before a waitress came. A chicken sandwich, an order of chicken strips and queso and chips.. and 2 soft drinks. $48.72 before the tip.
For $20 more I could have gone to Ruffins (their prices surprisingly hasn't gone up much) had a very good meal and service. 2nd time ever going to pluckers, I will never go back.

I go out to eat fairly often, but it's only at 3-4 places. I eat a zippy's at least once a week.

they are basically all the same
Preach it, brother.
I've read so many menus recently and seen the same appetizers and same mains. I expect the Sysco truck fills the same standing orders each week.
We don't drink. That's a saving.
We tend to eat ethnic which can be reasonable until the places bring in a chef who wants to make a name for himself, and damned few chefs have an original idea.
When we travel, I have always taken a small fry pan and my portable propane one burner stove (and I used to pick up single propane cannisters at Kmart.) It was and is easy to pick up fresh fish on either coast, or meat and a vegetable and I have cooked literally from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island. I've also frozen four individual wrapped filet mignons in a block of ice and as it melts, cook for the two of us as the steaks emerge. I've also made a great meatloaf freeze it, and with mashed potatoes (easily done in a microwave) )Frozen veg (ditto) for a meat and two, and then meatloaf sandwiches. (It's an adventure and challenge to keep good nutrition in an ice chest and picknic basket, but doable.)
I just can't see dropping over a hundred dollars when we could eat filet mignon for four or five meals as an alternative.
