Just went on a date with a chick that got 2, $15 drinks. I really wanted to say something to her. Like be respectful, I'm paying for this not you and you can buy 3 bottles of that at the grocery for that. I'm not seeing her again. I imagine it'd only get worse.
Where were you? While I would agree that getting the most expensive wines by the glass on the menu would be shitty, $15 for a glass of wine or cocktail is fairly middling at nicer restaurants at this point. And with that said, I don’t consider getting two drinks during a dinner date to be at all unreasonable. So without more information, it’s hard to tell which of the two of you are being unreasonable in this situation.

I’m a red wine guy. It’s my only vice on the planet. With my club memberships and the perks from them I typically pay 1/2 retail on my desired wines. I cannot justify paying 2.5x of retail for I typically pay 50% - 60% of retail for, plus 20% on top for server.

Went to Commander’s last week for dinner, two people. Two drinks per person. Got out of there for $250 total with tip. It was spot-on, as usual.
I felt better about that because the cost gap between Commander’s and restaurants like The Chimes or Ruffino’s has closed.
It felt like I was “winning”.

Late on a decent thread. Luckily my wife (and I) aren’t foodies. Example…for Mothers Day we had met friends for drinks and live music at an outdoor even. After she said didn’t wanna cook and said she wanted to go to Texas Roadhouse as she’s never gone. Sat at the bar (as they of course were slammed) and chatted w the locals and she was thrilled w her sirloin.
Went to the lake yesterday, made sandwiches.
We only eat out 3-4 times a year, usually for birthdays.
Oh we’ll spend money on wine. Got over 100 bottles of wine we selected at wineries or festivals in my wine fridge.
We just feel like restaurants are a waste of money, like gambling.

A great dining experience doesn't have to be a pretentious dining experience. But people who consider themselves "foodies" will never get that.

My wife works and cooks for me every morning and night. I will take her out once a week to give her a break, because she deserves one. It’s stupid pricey anymore.
Posted on 6/8/24 at 10:55 am to Morpheus
Yeah it’s bullshite. Most drinks nowadays are at least $12 to $15 or more. fricking ridiculous.
I paid $22 for a fricking Makers Mark old fashioned in Dallas last year. I told the bartender, “Goddamn! I can buy a whole fifth of Makers for $25.”

It’s not the price of the food but declining service and ESPECIALLY other patrons that keep me from dining out more often.
If you go to Waffle House, you expect one kind of experience, but at Brennan’s, Perry’s, Herbsaint…get the T shirts and shorts out of there.

Me and my wife went to Sushi Masa in Lafayette the other day ( Memorial Day actually) and we both couldn’t believe how so many fat people were rolling in. Really overweight people.
To be fair, that’s the nature of AYCE places. I am always amazed by the wait at our location when we are parking next door at Zorba’s or Ichiban.

Sounds like you need to date a teetotaler.

Out to eat is expensive! When the wife and I need to save money and have a lean month, we cut out the restaurants and you can clearly see the credit card bill decrease bigly

At least make your fella pay sometimes.

I stopped going to restaurants when the little darlings started spitting, or worse, in white peoples food. Beginning of 2020.

You couldn't believe how an all you can eat sushi place had lots of fat people?
Thats like going to a Golf course and being surprised to find Golf Balls

If you can’t pay for drinks you probably aren’t doing well enough to take women out. Need to work on yourself.

I'm assuming this is yet another old-coded thread where most posters begrudgingly take the wife out to eat once a quarter and they hate every second of not being on the couch in front of the TV/phone/ipad
