I got tricked once. ONCE.

My Wife's brother's baby-momma's baby shower. Supposed to be cool, drink beers and grill on the porch and hang out with the dudes while all the ladies are inside.

WRONG.

1: The baby-momma family was turbo-Christian, no alcohol allowed in the house.

2: No grill.

3: No dudes except me, my BIL, and baby-momma's daddy.

I told my wife never again, ever, and if she wants to divorce me, then divorce me. This was over a decade ago and I've not been invited to one since and we are still happily married.

Bonus: As it turns out, the kid wasn't even his.

I can’t imagine asking men to go to one of those.

But I’m also old school. After my cousin’s second baby shower (the first involving one of her twins passing, so it felt alright to go) I stopped going to her other showers. I’m of the thought that you have one for your first then you’re on your own after that. She’s had like three gender reveals, this last time had a diaper party, and etc.

Folks need to dial it back.

Pretty much all the 35 and unders I know do all of the above. Now I'm all about the gender reveal since they didn't do it back in my day. What's not to like about an excuse to have a party?

It's quite possible that they enjoy being together. It's also the same guys that wanted to teach these things to their daughters.

That's code for co-dependency.

The child has not been born yet. A baby shower is about celebrating a woman's transition to motherhood.

That is a ridiculous statement. A baby shower is about giving gifts to help out the new family and celebrate the impending birth. Yes, the mother is honored, but it's really about the new baby.

So you need an excuse for your wife to let you out on your own? You can’t just do what you want in your relationship and you making fun of others?

Look in the mirror bro.

Thank you!! It is hard to believe that people do that in the South. I always manage to develop symptoms of something potentially contagious to avoid the event.

I knew I'd have to attend one. So I had a crawfish boil/babies shower. More people attended, more gifts.

The men stayed outside near the pot, & ice chest, the women inside baking & drinking wine (except for the mother to be). Enjoyed it & had a good time.

This is def the way.

No. Dudes go play golf during the baby shower. Men should not be on the premises if they're related to anyone (by marriage or otherwise) in the female party. Rando bartenders and clean up crew only.

The days of getting knocked up at 19 when everyone is broke are past us, except for Aggy. It's just a party, and with women these days, men should want zero, zero, zero, part of that. Unless some of the guests are women from the West Bank. Then you're going to see some tittays when you make it back from the dude afternoon.

Yea I did it once, but I told mine it ain’t happening again. The dudes there don’t care at all.

Truth be told, the women don’t really care either. They have to be fake for some reason. They all know each other are fake but keep it up. Sounds a lot like insanity to me.

The only thing worse are gender reveal parties. Who in God's name thought of those?

I call bullshite on that...women may have suggested it, but ultimately it's the guys who have agreed to it. Just another example of wussification in America.

Ehh. We were having twins so it was a big deal. Everyone was excited. My wife enjoyed it, & shes worth it. I'd be gone for weeks, sometimes months at a time, so I enjoyed hanging with the fam.

We didn't golf until the next day, but we did go fishing that morning, boiled crawfish that afternoon, and partied that evening. Had a damn good time.

Yeah I was def older & more mature. Probably why I hung out with my family instead of running off with the "dudes"
