The USA is the only super power currently, but China will be there soon enough.

It’s the USA and maybe China right now and that’s it.

This is correct.

The rest would just be filling out the other 3 spots for a top 5 list of the "strongest" (which is subjective) nations. But to have Germany at 3 and France not on there makes this a terrible take.

Days of France and England being top seem gone

Those days were gone a long time ago. World War II kicked their asses financially and psychologically, and their empires had crumbled by the 1960's. Britain held on to some of theirs a bit longer, but the ball started rolling in the 60's. Their power came from riding on the coat tails of the United States.

Under what criteria do you class Germany as a "super power"?

Please clarify if you're referring to military superpowers or economic superpowers.

Those are two different categories and the rankings are different for each one.

Exactly

And let’s not forget about Spain, Portugal, France and the Dutch. Of course these were not in modern times but there was a time before the USA.

Who didn’t take world history???

Britain and France are more powerful than Russia. They don't spend as much as the Russians do on their military (though the gap isn't big), but they are economically and culturally far more powerful countries.

If you have Germany on this list, then Japan needs to be as well.

Outside of military or economic power, I look at which countries could maintain normal life if forced to go it alone, while still being able to project its power on the rest of the world. As of now the only country that can do that is the US.

Uhh...The Brits had the largest empire in human history. It wasn’t just in one area, there were so many areas in the world they owned or had heavy influence in.

According to Professor Paul Dukes, “a superpower must be able to conduct a global strategy including the possibility of destroying the world; to command vast economic potential an influence; and to present a universal ideology”
