For example, saying black people like watermelon. That's not racism at all.
Agreed that's not racist. I dont mind stereotypes, as long as it isnt degrading. I usually find a lot of them funny. For the record, I hate watermelons, but I love me some fried chicken
But when stereotypes are meant to be degrading, ie. Saying all black people are crack babies who dont know their father. That is racist. Or even saying all white people are rednecks who dont shower, and drive pickup trucks while missing their front 3 teeth, that too could be deemed as racist.
I feel like nowawdays racism is like the boy who called "wolf". There has been so many instances of folks claiming racism, when it wasnt anything close. Now in an instance of actual racism, people refuse to acknowledge that.

I'm actually leaning towards the point where we should encourage more of this. Here me out. Let everyone express how the feel, put it out there on the table. If we get enough of it, it may start tipping the scales and we will get less outrage about it. I think (and hope) that it will trigger those that get offended to shrug it off because an immunity will have been built. It will force us to focus on ourselves more than worrying about how others feel about us. It should inspire those that feel disenfranchised to build their own instead of feeling the need to be accepted by someone else. As long as people aren't trying to physically harm someone, let it be.
Unfortunately, that will never happen. Too many people get their feelings hurt over a variety of issues. I like the concept, just don't think it will ever catch on.

If loving watermelon, fried chicken and collard greens is a sign of being black then I guess I am a black man trapped in a white man's body. Wish it would at least show through in the penis area.

No shite, if loving those things are wrong, I will never be right.

Well the watermelon stereotype was literally brought about to degrade freed black slaves who grew watermelon to make a living. There is 100% a racist and derogatory history behind the watermelon stereotype and its already been explained with pictures and links twice in the last couple pages.
Its not about liking those things, its the history behind where the stereotype came from.

Stupid kid mistakes. You're a jackass. Now he is going to go into every job interview having to explain this.
Kids that age are raised in an environment where the N-word is used more than we ever heard in our lives. They watch black created rap/tv/YouTube videos/movies etc that all make jokes like this. These kids that always seem to be making these mistakes aren't racist, they are just stupid because they don't realize what a cesspool of humanity Is social media. This kid probably idolizes Chapelle and Lil Wayne.
Frick off.
Also...
Best he change his name

quote:The propaganda machine of degrading blacks with imagery of food stereo types and such that we saw in the 1900s is long gone and people recognize how damaging it was. Now it is replaced with inflammatory imagery and media that attack a wider base of people collectively through stereotypical, some subtle, "campaigns" if you will. Alot of hate is being blasted from all corners. It is kind of crazy. I've grown to just ignore it and shrug my shoulders.

Promposals are awful in general, but this seems fake to me. How could he NOT know that this isn't done? Kid's a senior and he's this stupid?

What state of mind do you have to be in to think that this is an okay thing to do or is something people would find acceptable?
He deserves the backlash, because this was just plain stupidity.

I agree, it's the shock factor. People want to get their 15 minutes of fame. He got it, just not the way he probably envisioned.

The sign is stupid, but it is not racist because it does not imply any sort of prejudice or superiority. It's f'n stupid and in poor taste but not racist. Folks will try to ruin the stupid moron's life over it though.
