There is a weird phenomenon on this site where proud, overt, obvious racists, try to parse the definition of racist so as to avoid the label.

If you are going to be unabashedly racist, just embrace the label. Seems strange to me.

The promposal went viral after his girlfriend shared the controversial sign on Snapchat and captioned the post with heart-eyes emojis.

To be fair, there is a lot of shite out there that automatically gets labeled by society as "racist" even though it clearly isn't.

For example, saying black people like watermelon. That's not racism at all. What is insulting or bad about liking watermelon? Nothing. It's just like saying white people like country music. Neither of those are examples of racism. They're stereotypes, which are generally rooted in some version of the truth.

We'd be a lot better off if we all focused on truly derogatory and vindictive discourse.

BTW, yes, I think this kid's prom sign is racist.
The watermelon thing is rooted to the insulting imagery of the past

But she was impressed enough to share it with heart emojis so I assume she said yes.

I present to you the future Mr and Mrs Dumbass.

No SJW here. This is absolutely racist. Idiotic and not funny at all. My guess is, he’ll be banned from the prom and rightfully so.

Jesus. How stupid can you be, kid?

I know. We get it, you don't like black people. You don't have to try and be "creative" and broadcast you disdain in unusual ways

I've read that they have alot of racial issues at this school and the administration is kind of shrugging their shoulders about it

Do you look as stupid as you act? What kind of asinine comment was that? Do you feel better about yourself now. You're pathetic.

Sigh. I was directing that at the kids at the school, not you or any other poster here. Sheesh

It's actually pretty funny.

Although I'm not sure why anyone would think they aren't going to catch a ridiculous amount of shite over something like this.

I'm fine with the poster, and I'm fine with people talking shite to him about it.

Well, that’s a problem. Certainly, I am not advocating that people need to be offended by everything, but this is overt. This actually fits the definition of racist speech.

I'm actually leaning towards the point where we should encourage more of this. Here me out.
Let everyone express how the feel, put it out there on the table. If we get enough of it, it may start tipping the scales and we will get less outrage about it. I think (and hope) that it will trigger those that get offended to shrug it off because an immunity will have been built. It will force us to focus on ourselves more than worrying about how others feel about us. It should inspire those that feel disenfranchised to build their own instead of feeling the need to be accepted by someone else. As long as people aren't trying to physically harm someone, let it be.
