People don’t realize that whites can’t just get up and move. My mom’s friend came to visit once and was interrogated for hours because they thought she was going to overstay her allowed travel plan.

Rugby legend and South Africa World Cup winner Naka Drotske was shot three times while he was with another world wide Ruby Legend Os du Randt at Drotske's brother's small farm in Pretoria yesterday. Drotske is currently in critical condition. Drotske and du Randt both played in the first major sporting event after the fall of Apartheid.

Pretoria - Tienus Drotské, the brother of former Springbok hooker Naka Drotské, and his family have moved off the smallholding in Kameeldrift where Naka was shot three times.
Naka, fellow former Springbok teammate Os du Randt and Tinus, with Tinus's three children, were together when three men barged into the house at 9.15pm.
“They just finished having a braai and were ready to retire, when three men, two carrying guns and the other pepper spray, barged into the house,” said Cameron.
Cameron said Afriforum was in the middle of a court case to reinstate reservists in Kameelfdrift. “The reservists are much needed. The crime in small holdings is spiralling out of control,” he said.
Last month, Manie Entress, a nearby neighbour was still coming to terms with the murder of his wife. She was shot a couple of houses away from Naka’s house in September. Entress said the police have done nothing yet to further investigation. “This place is ridden with attackers and police and not doing anything to keep us safe,” he said.
Some of the Drotské family's belongings have already been removed and they will be moving out permanently.

Yeah people are nice to each other 99% of the time, while the same people who will exchange pleasantries will murder you for 100 rand if given a chance with little chance of any consequences.

Husband, wife attacked on Western Cape farm
A husband and wife are receiving medical care after they were attacked by three unknown men on a farm in Porterville, Western Cape, on Sunday night.
Police are investigating cases of attempted murder and sexual assault following the incident.
"They poured petrol over the male victim to burn him, but he managed to activate a panic button after which the attackers fled on foot."
The suspects have not been apprehended.

Virtually all the family or family friends I have left in South Africa have A. Been violently robbed B. Know someone relatively close to them who has been murdered, typically over possessions worth relatively nothing.

I’ve always thought that Africans were in Africa before White colonizers moved into Southern Africa. Dutch Boers farmed the land and industrialists exploited mineral wealth, primarily gold and diamonds. Were the whites there first? Or was the area entirely uninhabited until the Europeans arrived? I’ve just always assumed Africans were there when the whites arrived, but I could be wrong.

That area was not inhabited, but did have a small nomadic population that lived there periodically. Virtually all of the black population has no ties to the original nomadic tribes. So the whites were there before virtually anyone.
Not that it matters. Conquest is the way of the world.

Apparently I’m not. I could have sworn I read a book about King Leopold and his colony, the Belgian Congo, that made it sound like the locals were brutally treated by the colonizers, but maybe I’m mixing it up with some place else. I’ve also heard about the Boer War, DeBeers, apartheid, Rhodesia and Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner; but that doesn’t make me an expert on African colonization by any means.
Hopefully, someone better versed than I can post a brief history. I’d be specifically interested in learning more about when all those Africans arrived and started fricking up the Europeans well oiled machine.

So the whites imported the blacks, presumably from West and East Africa, to work the fields and the mines? Would this have happened when the Dutch first arrived ~late 1600s/early 1700s or later as Capetown became a larger place? Slaves or a paid labor force?
