Been twice in last 3 years, visiting the main 4 islands. Were in tourist spots but also in small more isolated towns and at local festivals. Met lots of locals, never any problem. Did see a handwritten sign at a beach warning tourists to stay out. We ignored it and had a great time. Think beach was 90% tourists, lol.

Hawaii would reign supreme as biggest shithole in the U.S. if it wasn’t for tourism. My first time on Oahu I was genuinely shocked at the state of Honolulu. Of course it only gets better from there, but that’s only because of tourism.
