It's been proven time and again that music makes the movie, not the other way around.
Replace that song with another, say a pop song, and the movie doesn't become a timeless classic...it becomes dated.

I love the original version by Bing. It’s one of my favorites. I really like the Little Drummer Boy duet he did with David Bowie. The video is such a neat little interaction between the two. Whoever thought of putting the unlikely duo of those two together and singing a Christmas song was genius. They’re so good together on this song.
