Use to nail a girl from DeRidder back in the day. She lived on the golf course and I found the town to be really nice.

Vernon parish is not a place you want to mess around in.

Outside of the State might be Leesville. Mainly cause anyone that’s ever been in or around the Army has either done time or training (Basic or JRTC) at Fort Polk.

I work in Leesville and Deridder. It’s Leesville.

I'm from DeRidder. When asked where I'm from, I say Lake Charles area and they say where in that area and when I say DeRidder, they always know exactly where it is. Famous Tigers from the DeRidder Dragons, Trigger Allen, Mel Branch (Chinese Bandit), Mike Mayes, Basketball: John Rudd, Johnny Jones.

Leesville nickname in the 70's was Diseaseville.

Not sure why.

Man, you’re impatient.

Mom lives in Deridder. Neither place is worth “living” in. Terrible places.

Deridder has its name on a sign along I-10, so I guess I’ll say deridder.

What do you mean by recognizable? If you showed a picture of both to Louisianans east of Lafayette 90% wouldn't know what they were viewing.

Isn't there a paper mill near Deridder?

I vaguely recall driving near there years ago and there was a terrible smell.

At this point, a couple million people at the least have either rotated through Polk on a JRTC rotation, did basic at Tigerland, or had a PCS move there. Its easily the most recognizable outside of the state.

Lol! I am also from DeRidder, but actually live in LC now. I still say DeRidder when anyone asks, but if they don't know I just go with "....SWLA, close to Lake Charles." I actually lived closer to Sugartown than DeRidder, but we still had a DeRidder address. Parents still live there, and I definitely do not mind when I head for a visit. I love the area.

Why do you want to leave Rosepine out of your question for consideration?
