East Texas (east of I-45) is very much the South.
Most of the rest is Southwest, with some Midwest far north.

Here is how you define the South...
Krystal in Red
White Castle in Blue
Border states (with both) in Green

if your avg annual snowfall can be measured in "feet" , you can't be in the south.

As someone who grew up in southern Virginia, I’ve been saying for years that Fredericksburg is the dividing line...glad to finally see someone else note the same after all this time.
Edit: I don’t consider Maryland to be a southern state (no one could rightfully argue that Baltimore is a southern city), but I did meet a guy a few years back who was from south Maryland near the VA line (not in the DC area, but more in the area south of Waldorf) who had an unmistakably thick southern accent.

Maryland outside of the DC/Baltimore corridor feels pretty damn Southern to me whenever I've been in that area. Old school Southern.

What about the mountains of Tennessee and particularly North Carolina (i.e. Mount Mitchell, NC) that do get that much snow annually?

Thinking that Austin is a good representation of what Texans think is stupid.
Texas is the South. It was founded by Southerners and people that came over from Europe. Just like Louisiana.

So this was based on the mentality of what the south is, right?
Otherwise, these stupid mfers need to take geography again.

The South:
1 Louisiana
2 Mississippi
3 Alabama the retarded inbred brother of southern states
4 South Carolina
5 North Carolina
6 Georgia but they're on probation because of the arse whippin' Sherman put on them
7 Northern part of Florida from redneck Jacksonville to Mexico Beach- this line is north of Gainsville. UF should be to the Big10, with their beloved Corch Myer, and the rest of that Yankee mess of a state
Virginia grey area.
Everything else is yankee.

East Texas is Southern and very similar to Louisiana. Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio are not Southern. Most people in Texas don’t consider themselves Southern at all. They want to be called Texans.
