Deep South:

Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, maybe parts of georgia

Ok to be considered south:

Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky

Probably not south:

Oklahoma, Arkansas, North Carolina

Definitely not south at all:

Texas, Florida

I don't get the hick correlation at all?

I don't consider Miami, FL to be Southern.
I don't consider Louisville, KY to be Southern.
I don't consider Alexandria, VA to be very Southern

Catch my drift?

Most, except for on this website, would consider Georgia as more of a Deep South state than Louisiana

There's a pretty clear shift around Fredericksburg, VA.

As being from north of there in VA and having the rest of my family be from south of there in VA. I second this statement. NOVA is completely different culturally. Fredericksburg is what I call the Y'all line. That's about where people start/stop saying y'all

It’s weird that Virginia has traditionally been considered part of the South considering it’s actually right near Pennsylvania.

You're confusing Southern with Hillbilly.

If the Stars and Bars flew over your state house anytime between 1861 and 1865, then your state is, by the Grace of God, a Southern state.

If it didn't, then you live in a shithole yankee state you filthy, good for nothing yankee piece of shite.

This is a good post. "The South" as a sole term is too nebulous. While all states on that list are Southern IMO, it's wrong to include TX and FL as "The South". Both would chafe to be called Northern and I think neither would be bothered by Southern but both are more a subset of the South, Texas in particular.

Texas, for better or worse depending on your perception, is of it's own.

Resistance is futile.

probably to Houston, but the whole of TX is way too big to call all of it Southern.
