Chevy Chase neighborhood in Lexington. This bad boy is parked in front of my house. I just read the starting price is $470,000. That is frick you money. Montana plates…Rolls Royce SUV…must be some rich horse person.

Meh. He just didn't want to pay sales tax so he doesn't really have "frick you" money. Just sayin

Re dodging sales tax, there was a recent thread about how YouTuber Cody Detwiler (WhistlinDiesel) was arrested this month for tax evasion related to a car registered in Montana but owned by a resident of Tennessee.

A quick search shows that some states are going after people hard for the taxes, plus penalties and perhaps jail.

ETA; and those things depreciate like a mofo, if that's a 2025, somewhere in the next 2-3 years you could buy it for somewhere in the Ford Explorer/Expedition range

the cheapest, miled up 2022 cullinans are still $250k but ok. Probably the same depreciation rate or less than my wife's AMG SUV lol.

Don't hire Lane. He will cause a raise in sales tax to 25-30%.

Montana no sales tax so a lot of people will buy expensive items in Montana to avoid sales tax. Theres plenty of Gwagons riding around New Orleans with Montana plates. It’s technically illegal but only if you get stopped.

WhistlinDiesel, the YouTuber, was recently arrested for this in Tennessee. They charged him with tax evasion for never changing the Montana plates on a Ferrari.

Technically you can’t, if you live here. Even if you have an LLC registered in MT, if your coffee shop is only in BR and NO, it’s gonna be hard to keep it registered there.

The sales pitch MT gives is that your initial registration is there in MT so when you move to LA you would be paying taxes on the depreciated number rather than brand new, but people don’t change it over.

Arrested or ticketed? Seems like you have to have other issues to get arrested for an improper registration.

He was arrested.

I think New Hampshire had some stupid easy out of state car registration but closed that loop hole. I think it was more of a title washing than anything.

Saw one the other day in Charlotte. Knew it was expensive but didn’t realize it was half a million. I’ll stick to my Tahoe for a while I guess.

It’s tax evasion. Ask W Snipes.

There’s also insurance denial of coverage issues if you get in a wreck.

It’s a very stupid idea to do this with cars.
