re: Which group will likely tilt the St. George vote? It's all about undecided voters

There are a shite ton of signs for SG at houses of folks well over 60
More anecdotal, but my neighbor and his wife (mid to late 70s) had a sign up in summer of 2018 haha

{Do the people who live in the area that would make up St George the only ones allowed to vote?]
{I believe so. Pretty sure the boundaries were adjusted based on the results of the first petition so most precincts that wouldn’t vote for incorporation were removed.}
Right if your area was not in favor of being part of St. George, they did not try to force you in this time. At the same time Baton Rouge also did not choose to annex your area.

Oh man, no shite.. Where is that dude? He was always up in arms about it. I remember he got the banhammer for something and when he got out of time out, he seemed less likely to try and stir up shite.

I remember the last time St. George tried to establish itself, and "failed" to get the required signatures, and many folks here were making fun of the St. George folks and claiming it would never happen and to just give up. Those posters sure are singing a different tune now
This city has slid further into the sewer since then. New mayor, Malcom X Day (
), murder rate spike, makes it a point to say she is getting rid of the white chief regardless of how good of a job he's doing and how good the morale at the Dept. is, appoints a guy named Troy Bell to be her #2 in command after a 4 month search, only to find out by a 4 minute google search that he's a freaking fraud and did not attend the college he said he did nor hold the job he said he held, besides being a 50 year old "professional" who wears a gold hoop earring for his professional photograph, new black chief comes in and apologizes to the family of Alton Sterling who was shot by a police officer and 2 separate law enforcement agencies ruled it justified, number of city parish employees constantly on the rise along with the budget, while the population remains flat, Council on Aging, CATS, Gary Chambers... do I need to go on? I said it before but at least they are willing to stay in EBR unlike the 100s of thousands who have left. Posted on 9/18/19 at 2:34 pm to dragginass

I think the more likely push after SG incorporates will be to join forces with the local NAACP to start a campaign to abolish the current City-Parish consolidated government in favor of separate city and parish governmental bodies

I was reluctantly against it also. I’m all in this time. How about you ?

Anyone know where the St George victory party will be on election night? That'll probably be a good time.

Squee is having a kegger in the 70809. Sheriff has been told to stand down.

I know plenty of people over 60 who are for St. George.
Reading comprehension sons. I didn't say "every person over the age of 60 is against it." I said every person that I know who is against it is over 60. The only people I've heard with young kids who oppose it also won the magnet lottery. Guess what, though? This doesn't change anything about the schools. That's an argument for a later day.

Broome and Gravy helped ensure everyone who was once against it is now for it. The only people I know that are still against it are weird-arse liberals who suffer from a serious case of TDS. They were never going to vote for it anyway because it would go against their virtue signaling to appease their friends in TogetherBR.

I can't imagine that many people over 60 are against it. Old folks are on the Trump Train and very conservative.

We're still trying to clean the poo off the walls he left in some of those St George threads. Talk about being a pretentious arse about something that's going to happen now.

This is true for the formation of the city. However to get its own school system requires a constitutional amendment which requires a state wide vote.
How fortunate are we that we have a gubernatorial candidate that wants to do a constitutional convention.
It is ridiculous the amount of stuff we have in our constitution.
The average state constitution has been amended like 115 times. The "money" section of Louisiana's has more than 100 amendments.
Maybe it is time to just start the thing over.

Not that it can be used as a direct comparison, but looking at the 2016 Election Map compared to the St. George map, Trump won St. George with around 65-70% of the vote. That has to play very well for St. George, because I cannot see someone who supports Trump and his desire to "drain the swamp" wants to get stuck subsidizing the idiots in Baton Rouge.

Art VII Section 20.(A)(9) dealing with the Homestead exemption States:
(9) This exemption shall not extend to municipal taxes. However, the exemptions shall apply (a) in Orleans Parish, to state, general city, school, levee, and levee district taxes and (b) to any municipal taxes levied for school purposes.
The proposed area of St. George is in the un incorporated area of the Parish. Once it is incorporated it becomes a municipality and the homestead exemption does not apply.
You start paying property taxes on the first dollar not the $75,001 dollar of your property taxes
WHile I don't have any ammo against your link to the constitution, I know that I lived off of Perkins Rd near College drive and I received the Homestead Exemption.
