re: Which group will likely tilt the St. George vote? It's all about undecided voters

I think it happens to
They are kidding themselves if they don't think there will be higher taxes
It's going to be more expensive than they think
The interesting vote will be those who are in the magnet system already and Baton Rouge High is where they are at or where they want to go. Those votes will be crucial as well.

The population of Baton Rouge has been stagnant for 40 years, literally, yet taxes have spiked, legacy costs have spiked, number of government employees has spiked, crime has spiked, education has plummeted and confidence in leadership has fallen to an all time low.
At least those in St George are willing to try incorporation and staying in the parish as opposed to choosing what 10s of thousands of people have been doing over the past 50 years, leaving for a nearby parish, commuting to BR for work, then taking all their money back to another parish.
Im sure its just a coincidence that the #1 through #4 school districts are Zachary, Central, Ascension and Livingston Parishes though. EBR is like 53 or something, out of 64 as I recall.

I call it "fear mail"

This is true for the formation of the city. However to get its own school system requires a constitutional amendment which requires a state wide vote.

“Scare Mail” is better, since it’s a more direct call back to “air mail”
Though I suppose air mail really isn’t a thing anymore since so much of it is on planes

I remember reading this. Why does the whole state get to vote on a city choosing to create their own school system seeing as the public school systems are administered on a parish by parish basis?

I'd say it's probably closer to 70-30 for the incorporation
I hope you're right, but I think it will end up being very close. I can see the TBR scare tactics about higher property taxes being effective on older people without school-age children, and that group typically turns out to vote in high numbers, especially with the gubernatorial race on the ticket. The St. George proponents are going to really need to rally their side to get out the vote, especially with the election on the LSU/Florida game which will likely be a 2:30 kickoff.

undecided voters
I'm not from there...but who in the hell could be undecided about leaving ebr and that cluster F of leadership? Who would say "yeah, I think I'll trust ebr to fix things"....lol

It’s always about the undecided voter. The side that gets the undecideds off their couches wins.
Except in San Francisco. Those elections are set in advance

If people choose not to vote that day because of a football game that occurs every year, yeah, it doesn't deserve to pass.

What the Better Together people don't realize is people will stay in EBR Parish if this passes as opposed to flocking to Ascension or Livingston Parishes. They fail to see that half of something is better than all of nothing.

“Undecided” voters at this point are St George voters who don’t want to say so because they don’t want to be harassed.
Bingo.
I'm so pro-St G, it hurts. But I'll be damned if I'm gonna go step in front of that bus on Facebook or something.
Anyone who isn't vocally against it is probably for it.

Because the current state constitution is designed to consolidate power at the state level, particularly with the governor, not to emphasize local control.

This is the whole crux of my argument to anyone I choose to speak to about it. I think SG is the only way EBR can reverse it's outflow. Without it, AP and LP will continue to flourish while EBR dies on the vine.

Exactly, and this is the exact reason why I support the incorporation effort because EBR will soon be on life support if this does not pass.

I'm from the St. George area and I do not know anybody that is against the move. Bring on the vote.

LSU and the Mall of Louisiana are going to regret their annexation moves. Perkins Rowe finna eat.

Pretty much anyone that owns property and year after year is forced to pay taxes for the EBR school system as it continues to fail after 50 years, is going to vote for St George. School system or not, it gets tiring paying the bill to keep North Baton Rouge on life support. Nothing will ever happen there, NOTHING EVER. No viable business wants to spend money there only to be robbed into oblivion, have their employees potentially killed when locking up, deal with irrational thugs who do not value anyone's life or property, etc. It will forever be weave shops, pay-day loan places, nail salons, liquor stores and convenience stores, period. Whose fault is this? Certainly not the people who don't live there, shop there or work there. Those people are tired of paying into a system that only gave them 1 MFing high school in their area of 100K people. 1 high school, that is the total amount of public high schools in the St George area. My 4th grade kid could see how lopsided and terribly run everything in this entire city-parish is.

Every person in the area that I know who is against it is over the age of 60.
