Dude, in a heavy downpour, on the interstate, seeing others flashers is keeping you from hitting them. Have you never driven in a HEAVY downpour?

The ones in Raptors who drive 8 feet behind a car on the interstate because they're going 79 in the left lane

A few months ago my sister tried to explain to me how helpful it was that people put their flashers on in the rain

Unless it's an absolute monsoon you don't need to do anything different.

Of course you do, now you don't need to go 20 under the speed limit but you should definitely keep more room between you and the car in front of you.

7,500 pounds of F350 dually steel on good tires ain't gonna hydroplane.

Stay out of the left lane.

We regularly see semis jack knife on I-65 around here in heavier rain when they hydroplane. Stop it.

I learned to drive in Houston. I've driven in the hardest rain this continent has to offer. I've never even come close to running into someone because I couldn't see their regular tail lights and needed extra flashy visual cues.

Well driving normally in BR is dangerous. I try to not tailgate people but it seems like if I give people a little big of space, a Nissan Altima or dodge charger will cut in with no blinkers on. I’ve nearly gotten in so many wrecks dealing with the smooth brain drivers we have on the roads here.

This. You can’t stay the typical 1 or 2 car lengths back like is recommended. You have to tailgate people driving in this hell hole.

I'm not advocating that people drive 20 MPH over the speed limit or anything like that

You realize that is normal for like a third of the drivers on the interstate, right?

Yes, people driving half the speed limit when it’s sprinkling are a problem. People who slow down just a little bit compared to “normal” (which again is speeding for most) and increase following distance during heavy rain, however, are not.

That’s would I would call adjusting to the road conditions.

Once you hydroplane across 3 lanes and the median, then you will understand the consequences. It doesn't even have to be actively raining. It only takes one good puddle and you don't have to be going 70mph.

people who use flashers in the rain need to be pulled over and given a ticket.

I have, and a heavy downpour has never made it dark enough for someone to use their brights, and/or I've just never noticed this phenomenon.

Flashers are good for spotting the vehicle but make it absolutely terrible to try to recognize break lights.

If I was a cop I would make my living pulling over dumbasses like you who turn their flashers on in the rain

Uh, you're supposed to drive with your flashers so you can let the other drivers know it's raining. It's common courtesy.

I can’t tell if you wrote this TIC but according to the state police driving with your flashers on is illegal, unless the law has changed since 2019. LINK
quote:

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Driving with flashing hazard lights on during wet weather is illegal, Louisiana State Police reminded drivers with a social media post Monday, July 15. “Hazard lights should only be used if your vehicle is disabled in the roadway or on the shoulder,” the post reads. “There is no need to use your flashers while driving in the rain. It is actually against the law.” Louisiana law prohibits using flashing lights unless “a vehicular traffic hazard (requires) unusual care in approaching, overtaking or passing.”
