That's true, I've never visited michigan, but there is nothing in that region of the country that's even remotely on the same level as Taos, Telluride, Durango, Pagosa Springs, Moab, Fruita, Bryce and countless other places. Yea, UP is cool and somewhere I'll visit one day, but to be within 6-8 hours of western Colorado, Eastern Utah, and all in between, means frick Detroit.

El Paso gets about 7 inches of snow a year, and dry cold winters, which is a nice. It's also scenic with mountains and shallow canyons. Detroit istself is unappealing. I'd rather live a little closer to Ann Arbor, which isn't far.

El Paso

I just got El Paso as part of my territory for work. Went for the first time this summer and was surprised how pretty the surroundings were.
They have some nice areas and it's only an hour and a half drive to Las Cruces
Stay away from Juarez and you're good. Overall not a bad place
I wouldn't move there, but if my two options are that and Detroit then it's not even close

Farmington Hills is really nice as far as suburbs of Detroit go, and I've heard Traverse City is really cool in northern Michigan, but as a whole that state is a broke dump.

I've never been to El Paso, but ever since usage No Country for Old Men, I've been wanting to visit there. I have no clue why.

What you really seem to be saying is that you'd rather live in the SW Colorado area than Detroit. It really has nothing to do with what El Paso has to offer than proximity to an area that you like.

All of those require driving through a good portion of the boring arse Land of Entrapment. And before those, there's still Alamogordo, White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns, Ruidoso, Santa Fe.
There's a lot of pretty shite in Michigan during the summer. Once you get north of Grand Rapids there's a lot of small towns with beaches and plenty of woodlands to explore, rivers to travel down, and plenty of lakes to get drunk and drive boats on all day. Plenty of water to swim in without fear of animals. In the winter, you have to choose your skiing destination, most are small hills. You could also go cross-county skiing too.
Basically, if you want somewhere interesting to visit, you choose El Paso. If you want something interesting to do, you choose Detroit.
