You obviously have never visited Michigan. It's a beautiful state. There are numerous road trip worthy destinations within Michigan and Ohio

Ann Arbor is close as well meaning you can catch great CFB action. UM > UTEP
Plus you are 2 hours away from the greatest amusement park in the world (Cedar Point)

Detroit has some very rich suburbs. They make places like the woodlands or mandeville look poor.
