Yes, if being NY's southern branch office and the Mecca for black homosexuals is your idea of a good thing.

I-10 runs all across the south, from Atlantic to Pacific. The capital should be centrally located in the south. Junction, TX is almost directly half of I-10.

It's Junction boys.

Possibly the most ridiculous thing I will see on TD today.

OK, So I added a little "Trump flair" to my statement but I still maintain ATL isn't the most important Southern city as many on this board contend.

Atlanta has no impact on Louisiana, VA, Texas, Tennessee, Mississippi, or Missouri. Each of those states are driven by an economy that could act completely independent and without impact should ATL be nuked tomorrow.

This simply isn't true. It takes intentional dishonesty or outright stupidity to believe that a major corporate hub doesn't impact the regional corporate interests in the surrounding region. The idea that the absence of major companies which provide jobs and income in those states or the airport which funnels people into those states wouldn't be noticed is just imbecilic.

Dallas and Houston have more impact on this part of the South than ATL ever will.

On Louisiana? Probably. That's one of six states you reference. You have significant difficulty putting together linear arguments (the product of dumb emotional responses instead of rational ones).

quote:

ATL has a big airport...ok so the frick what? Dallas, Houston, and CLT have them too.

Jesus

quote:

People are calling for ATL because of its size and economy. OK, how about Houston since it has nearly 5 times as many people and GDP of $478 billion compared to ATL's $324 Billion. Or Dallas which boasts similar numbers to Houston.

Are you geographically challenged? First, Houston doesn't have 5 times as many people unless we're looking at useless stats about city limit populations. If Houston were in the South it would have a good argument for being the center of it. It isn't, so it doesn't.

I need to find the article but Nashville and DFW will be in the top 5 largest Metro areas by 2040.

So since DFW is not technically the South, I'll say Nashville.

Some people in this thread really have issues with Atlanta being an important city.

Fair enough, let's revisit in 40 years (or whenever Nashville isn't less than half the size of Atlanta)

Houston Metro area population 6.3M

Atlanta Metro area population: 5.8M

OK, so adding in the metro areas brings things much closer but Houston still prevails. As does Dallas (7.2M).

How is Houston not in the South? TX seceded from the Union just like GA. It boasts some of the same cuisine preferences (soul food, BBQ). Country music is popular there at the same levels seen in other southern cities.

The ATL airport could have been based anywhere along the SE coast. ATL just lucked out on that one.

I have issues with Atlanta residents thinking they are the superior to the rest of the South simply because they are a "big" city

Ah refuse to place the capital in any region that is in annual danger of receiving snow.

The South should be hot.

Houston isn't the South. I like Texas and think it has a lot in common with us, and in truth we're probably going to blend over time. But you're in the minority here.

Does it matter? The airport is in Atlanta. Pretending Atlanta is on par with regional cities is just silly. It hosted the Olympics ffs. It's probably going to get World Cup games. It's on par with Houston and Dallas, I agree, but they're not in the South and even if they were, they haven't had much impact/influence on the South over the last 100 years.

Going forward, perhaps Houston or Dallas will be more central to some combined Southeast/Texas region than Atlanta, but I think that's an answer to a different question.

Definitely not Richmond, and I’ve been there. Virginia is going blue. My vote goes to Atlanta
