re: Which 1980's American cars could be considered classics?

The GM F bodies and the Ford Fox body Mustangs are safe picks just because of what they are. Neither were particularly good cars in the 80s , but the same could be said for 70s Camaros and Mustangs and we know that as the models from the 60s get rarer and rarer the models from the 70s get more popular.
Added to the fact that guys who now starting to get into a position where they can collect want the cars THEY remember as kids, not the cars their fathers or even grandfathers remember.
I think you'll see a lot of retromodding of these cars from the 80s, doesn't take a lot of work to stuff a 600 HP LS1 into an F body, for example.

Outside of the vette, it was a bad time for American cars. I will say that the Olds 442 Hurst edition looked good.

Loved that car... Got T boned and it was totaled in 1989

American made cars in the eighties were crap.
I had an Omega and a Buick Century as company cars in the eighties and both were pure crap. Changed the transmission at 70K in the Buick and the paint pealed off the trunk after about 3 years.
I have not owned another GM since.

My brother just bought a black 1980 El Camino similar to this one. He's having it fixed up right now to use it as a show car and cruisin the coast and such.

They're exponentially better than they were even just 5 years ago. That company has done a complete 180 and is putting out probably the best American brand cars on the market.

Let us all remember the 80's vehicle that opened an entirely new segment of "I've given up being cool in life"
