My sister said she told her college roommate but she wouldn’t wake up to watch the tv. I wonder what she tells people when these “where were you on 9/11” discussions come up.

I was in shop class in jr high.

7th grade. Was on the school bus when the first plane hit. The bus driver heard it on the radio and she assumed it was some idiot in a Cessna. 2nd plane hit during my science class. That was the first day of my life, at age 11, I went home from Jr High and immediately turned on the news and couldn't turn it off.

Even I, at that young age, could appreciate just how together and unified the country was in the aftermath and it made me proud. Unfortunately I fear that feeling will never come again.

In my office in Port Harcourt with terrible phone service and worse internet. There was at least an hour of turmoil where we had to decide what to do with all the expats, including myself. The decision was made to shut down the office and quarantine the expats in a safe location. I will never forget the shock and awe that we all felt when we turned the TV on for the first time to see the towers burning. We were an apartment building full of people from all parts of the world in complete shock.

Listening to Walton & Johnson of all things. Woke up to a news brief of some sort, but didn't pay attention and went to class.

I too, was listening to Walton and Johnson in my car at the intersection of Sage and Dauphin in Mobile. Johnson told about it in his normal voice, no Billy Ed, O, or Mister Kenneth, which made me confused. Watched the rest at work. Damn, what an emotional day.

Why does this surprise people? We came together in the immediate aftermath, but as time passed, we still had differences. Did people seriously think conservatives and liberals would be in continual agreement for the rest of time?

7th grade. My mom checked me out for an orthodontist appointment. She told me some planes had hit the world trade center in New York. I didn't particularly know what the WTC at that point was or grasp the magnitude of what she was telling me.

I came home for lunch after the orthodontist appointment before I went back to school and I finally saw the videos of what had happened. At that point was when word got out that Bush was at Barksdale and was going to making a statement. Even for a 7th grade that was like oh shite. Back to school after that and ironically my first class was history and I still remember my history teacher trying to explain to us the magnitude of what had happened that day and how it was something our generation would remember and talk about all our lives, what pearl harbor was to our grandparents. That always stuck with me.

Waiting for school to start in morning assembly. A friend came in and said he heard on the radio a jet just ran into a tower in New York. We all kind of dismissed it like he was full of shite or it wasn’t a big deal. Later on that morning a teacher came running in crying saying the second tower collapsed. After that we all figured something was wrong.

I recall a girl a few years older crying because her mom and dad were supposed to meet her grandma at one of the towers for breakfast. They didn’t make it to the towers that morning but couldn’t get in touch with anyone.

10th grade, that day Spanish was first class. The morning announcements started I guess around 755am and the kid who was doing them actually announced the first plane at that time. Everyone went to their 1st period and watched the news.

I remember the morning pretty clearly, but after that class the rest is kind of a blur. I'm pretty sure we were sent home early, but not certain.

There are a few HC guys here that could maybe fill in my blanks on the happenings. I'll give them 10,000 bro points if they give me the initials of the guy that did the announcement that day.

Roughing in electrical in an attic when my cell that I had hanging on a rafter started ringing off the hook.

Girlfriend was on the other end crying hysterically
bc she had family in the city she could not reach saying that we had been attacked. Before the call ended the jobsite radio was breaking the news & everyone gathered around listening intently with looks of total shock & disbelief.

English class, taking a test. Announcement by our principal telling us about the Twin Tower and Pentagon attacks. Turned on the TV in the classroom just in time to see the first one fall.

One kid in our class, his dad had a business meeting in the twin towers that morning (the 2nd one to fall, as it turned out). His dad did get out but couldn't get in contact with the rest of the family until later in the afternoon. He was, understandably, distraught and left school as soon as the announcement was finished. He ended up going into the Marines a year later after graduating high school. Reading his Facebook posts recently, he's extremely bitter about how the pullout went down... And personally knows 2 people that got stranded in Afghanistan by the President*.

First period physics class in 9th grade. Teacher came in crying and told us what happened. We all went to the library and watched the whole thing unfold.

On my way into the office, listening to it on talk radio. When I got into the office, they had the TV on and I was just in time to witness the second plane hitting. I was in a state of shock the rest of the day, as was everyone.

My wife was also 8.5 months pregnant at the time. Heard the news about a plane crashing in the WTC, but reports were that is was a Cessna type plane. Seemed weird and wondered if the pilot passed out or had a heart attack. Then I saw the second plane hit on live TV. At that point I wondered what type of world was I about to welcome my newborn into…. Born 9/20/2001
