You can get a nice house on the sound (with a little land) in rural NC for cheap. Some of these places are really out there, but you’re on the water (and not far from Outer Banks), so what more could you want?

Downside is potential for flooding when the inevitable hurricane hits.

Ive lived here since 2016. Prices are crazy, but they are going quick. Recovery has been very slow. Just got the first gas station and bank. Still no grocery. Only one very shitty restaurant and a couple food trucks.
