My parents built their dream home on a half acre lot for $350,000 in the mid 90's. I understand that was over 20 years ago but I live in a smallish city. Vehicles have tripled since that time. An F150 pickup was $25k less than 10 years ago now it's $60k. Salaries have not gone up but remained stagnant. I have a high paying job for my community and it's insane the cost of groceries, cars, homes, living period. If your parents weren't rich the days of becoming rich seem harder to come by. Even doctors, lawyers, insurance agents, cpa's aren't making what they used to. Maybe it's just me but this shite is outta control. I can't think of a single thing that costs less today that I want or use etc and we should be more efficient at making things. Ok I'm done bitching.

But you have smart phones now.

Plus, when they bought that new home, they paid $1000 for a 31 inch CRT TV.

I bought a new F150 XLT super crew last year for 31-32k. People are demanding trucks with luxury car features and they are paying for it. More power to them. I have no need for it.

Long-distance phone service. Back in the day it was billed by the minute, now it's just free with your phone plan. Same with videoconferencing. Today you can chat face-to-face with your kids and see the grandchildren who live half a world away. In the mid-90's that was simply impossible for the average consumer.

Adjusted for inflation a ton of shite costs much less today than it once did. Pretty much anything that gets plugged in to the wall in your house, most likely.

This is just a load of shite btw. A fully loaded '08 F150 cost a lot more than $25k.

You can still get a base model F-150 for around $30k baw. You're only spending $60k on an F-150 if you're looking at King Ranch, Platinum or Raptor models.

Then don’t spend that money on an F150.

You can buy a very comfortable, cheap car for a great price nowadays.

For example, a Honda Civic base MSRP is around $19,000. That gets you 32 city/42 highway MPG. Comes with all the comforts you need too.

A lot depends on where you live.

In summary though, a lot is affected by your choices.

The reason an F150 is $60k now is because people like you will spend that much on it.

There are usually cheaper options for everything.
