I understand where you are coming from, but people confuse wants with needs. No one needs a $1,000 smart phone, they just want them. No one needs to live in a 3,000 sq. Ft. house. They just want to.

This is exactly my point!! I have to live more conservatively and not have nice things because they cost way more than when my parents were my age. Nice things to them back then were way cheaper and they got paid just as much as we do now.

You don’t believe the prices of things are rising while salaries have remained mostly stagnant?

Everyone knows that.

No I don't believe that as some sweeping generalization.

I'm living much better than typical 50/60s family and doing it on single income w 2 kids. Many if not most could do the same if willing to live in small home have one car and many fewer amenities and vacations just like in 50s/60s. Lifestyles have inflated significantly in past 60-70 years but most chose to ignore that.

Man you're an idiot. I give up with you. Link to prove something?? How old are you? I have a feeling you haven't even been around long enough to participate in this conversation. Are you married? Kids? Do you provide for more than just yourself? Go away.

This is not the case for most people. They live far more extravagantly than people did 50 years ago.

Trust fund baws.

Don’t even touch your inheritance, simply live off the interest.

Yes. Anything to back up what you're saying would be nice.

Well, just like everything else you've posted, you're wrong.

I grew up in small town Louisiana in 80s and 90s. It used to be a big deal for someone to go to an LSU Football game, Saints game or any vacation. Now I see on Facebook that people from this town do all of those things nearly weekly.

I think things are just more extravagant rather than people living more extravagantly. I don't think there's as much of a choice in the matter. I think it costs way more for me to live "extravagantly" now than it did 20 years ago and people don't make more money than they did then. No one has answered that question other than the minimum wage has gone up which has never paid for a car or house etc. I'm talking about middle class professions.

Government inflation figures are an absolute lie and a fraud on the truth. Cost of living is going up almost double figures not 1.9%.
Work to pay auto, health, home and flood insurance then the property tax government scam. Also get the highest sales taxes in the US for the privilege of living in most parts of Louisiana. Add in educational tuition and expenses too.
Money flows up to Corporate and the Rich while the middle class gets crushed.

The guy is use to sit by at Saints games before I upgraded lived in Carencro and worked as a butcher at the Winn Dixie. He would take a bus into the games with a bunch of other Lafayette folks. I have no idea how he affords his season tickets. He’s a great fan though, I would take him over the new guys I’m sitting by any day.

You can do your own research but it will show you most professions are not making more today than 20 years ago and it's obvious most things cost more. It's as simple as that.

Average wage per worker in 1998 was $28,861 or $41,142 in July of 2016 accounting for inflation. The average wage per worker in 2016 was $48,642. That tells me people are making more money today.

There used to be a charter bus from Shreveport that ran for the LSU games. It wasn't a whole lot for ticket and bus, but it was a relative treat to be able to do it.
