Open it back up, the horse is out of the barn, until there's a vaccine, we will continue to lose people vulnerable to the virus because of China's bioweapon.
Open the US economy and sanction China.

I say open it back up on April 30. Continue with hand washing, coughing and sneezing precautions and then continue social distancing but allow people to go out and do things. Then as things improve you can cut off the social distancing. What I mean by that is if you live with the person, social distancing isn't necessary.

Gradual reopening with rules for social distancing, like limiting the number of customers in a restaurant. But we have a large portion of our population that are either too stupid or too self centered to continue to be careful, and once we re-open things, we should expect the virus numbers to increase because of that. With a limited gradual and careful resumption of business, we can bring back the economy and still limit the virus effect.

If this is only to "lighten the load on the medical staff" then that is fine, but it has been long enough. My job doesn't completely shut down if someone else falls behind. We keep going. The economy needs to open back up immediately.

Diseases have been killing people since the beginning of time. You will not stop it no matter what you do. We are burning the entire house down to kill a spider in my opinion.

this portion's also ignoring stay at home orders...

I'd say open it up on May 1 and continue with social distancing precautions, have the compromised/possibly sick wear masks, rules preventing large gatherings etc

Tell people to decide for themselves. Let businesses decide whether they want to open, let employees decide whether it’s worth the risks to go back to work or patronize businesses. This never should’ve have been the government’s call in the first place. Let people decide to assume their own risk. Put recommendations out there, but let people and businesses decide what’s best for them.

I'd like to see us open now. People just need to exercise common sense.

But JBE will keep us locked down as long as he possibly can because, well, he's a democrat.

Your post convinces me that you think "Lewzianer" is actually the proper spelling.

Should have never been closed.

I pretty much hate people in general so a few million dead from this wouldn't mean squat to me.

That my feeling. Without strict restrictions on occupancy, businesses and the population at large will be more than happy to pack places once the restrictions are lifted.

I’d wager most bars and restaurants would be at max capacity immediately if we went back to “normal” and it would undo much of the efforts we’ve made to slow the spread.

A person is smart, people are stupid and all that

I grew up around some pretty stupid, inbread rednecks. Saying "yeller" instead of "yellow" or "Lewzianer" as opposed to "Louisiana" was common place.

There's a vast difference between inbread rednecks and country folks.

Except that you are forgetting that its likely a ton of people have it. If we can get it a 2nd time, we need to get back to normal.

If we can't get this strain a second time, then its very likely in 30 days that 25% or more of people already have had it and its possible double that have had it.

2ndly, many people are still scared. Even if you open everything back up normal, a huge portion of society is going to wait a couple weeks to see what happens. Again this is good as it will keep things slow.

I think we allow restaurants back to 50%, places with large crowds be delayed for a couple months, and keep strict social distancing for a couple of months like capacities at grocery stores limited and that type of thing.

Reported cases of Spanish flu dropped off over the summer of 1918, and there was hope at the beginning of August that the virus had run its course.

In retrospect, it was only the calm before the storm. Somewhere in Europe, a mutated strain of the Spanish flu virus had emerged that had the power to kill a perfectly healthy young man or woman within 24 hours of showing the first signs of infection.
