re: Graphics Card Recommendations

As soon as possible but willing to wait until stock replenishes in the next month or two if that is realistic. If I’m going to build I want to do it right
Honestly man, keep your bay boat and enjoy the weekend trips inshore. If you want to go offshore pay for a guide a couple times a year and save your money. You could pay for a guide for 3-4 times a year for the next 30 years and still come in cheaper than buying some of these offshore rigs and all of the other expense that comes with them. And you don't have all of the headache. You show up, fish, then go home.

Graphics Card Recommendations

Posted by OGD on 2/21/21 at 5:51 pm
I am looking to build a PC (first timer) and I am trying to find a great all-around graphics card to run WoW, Modern Warfare, and maybe Fight Simulator. My budget is around the $500 range for the Card.

I am looking at an RTX 3060 Ti, but it seems like these are like ammo right now. Impossible to find. Is a 3060 the right route? Can I get away with something else that may be more readily available?
Wasn't playing for me either. Tried on phone & laptop. Found a way to listen though

300 Win Mag Build

Posted by OGD on 12/20/20 at 7:11 am
I know there is a ton of info online if you know exactly what you are searching for but I’m a little stuck on trying to do a simple 300 win mag build. Nothing too crazy just a fluted barrel and a Remington model 700 platform. Anyone know where to get a fluted barrel from? Seems like everywhere I check is basically just gunsmiths all over the US that seem to be pretty complex when ordering these. You can’t just find the one you want and add to cart. Any recommendations for a first time rifle builder?

I’ve built 2 AR’s but the bolt action rifle world is another ball game.

Also, I’m not a precision shooter, I am a deer hunter so I’m not looking for all the flare and weight that comes with some of these elaborate, tactical precision rifles to shoot steel with.

Index vs. Thumb Bow Release

Posted by OGD on 12/19/20 at 7:12 pm
I shoot an index finger release. Have my entire life. Never shot with a thumb release. They look cool and all, but at the end of the day does it all just come down to preference? Should I stick with my index finger or is it worth the investment to go to a thumb release? I don't shoot competitions. Only hunt.

.338 Lapua Mag. Great starter gun. Little to no recoil

Considering you think that “a Mexican with no education beat me in the job market” and that it is a field “run by Mexicans” tells me that you have 0 idea what you are talking about. You also likely have the IQ level of the people that I have to deal with on a daily basis. Looks like you have deeper issues and insecurities of your own to figure out based on your previous responses to others who are making fun of a stereotype that you played all too well brought on by the “bro crowd” in the modern duck hunting world.

If the above was too hard for you to understand, let me summarize for you. Stop being a little bitch and suck it the frick up.

I bet you "run" a sweet spread of "dekes" and rev your Gator Tail up at the launch to assert your dominance.

I was basically in your exact same shoes at almost the same age. I graduated from LSU in CM and started working as an estimator at a good sized commercial GC in the New Orleans area. Moved up to Assistant PM then to PM. Worked in those three positions for about 8 years.
The company I worked for was great. The owner took care of his employees. They did great work and had a very good reputation in the industry but I eventually grew into hating what I was doing. For me personally, the stress that came along with what I was doing just wasn’t worth it. To me, all I felt like I was doing was fighting with people to get them to actually do what the said they were going to do and what they were contracted to do.
I was literally running three jobs with roughly 25 different subcontractors on each job. Just to name A FEW job requirements, I wrote all subcontractor agreements, built and maintained all schedules, reviewed and processed all submittals, balanced job budgets, reviewed and processed all RFI’s, change order proposals, change orders, produced bills to the owner, reviewed and coded all invoices for every aspect of each job, held weekly architect/owner meetings and typed the meeting minutes, held weekly subcontractor meetings and typed the meeting minutes. The list goes on and on. Lots of people don’t realize what actually goes in to building something and the GC is obviously on the front line of the whole thing.

Man, I don't know that I could have said it better than that. I always resort back to the thought "maybe I'm just complaining too much and need to suck it up. Work sucks and you have to suffer"

Duck hunting combined with Social Media has gotten completely out of hand. It has become more of a fashion show and dick measuring contest more than anything.
I'm sure it helped you, but the way I see it if you need a therapist to help you do your job (and you aren't in a direct combat role in the Military) you probably should not be doing that job.
Any of you Baws and Bawettes have any experience with changing your career at 29 years old? I graduated in CM and have been (and currently) in a Project Management position for a General Contractor for the past 6 years making excellent money. However, every day that passes I realize that this job does not fit who I am or who I want to be. I am more the type that wants to help people reach a goal. Maybe something in finance or real estate (preferably land and timber sales). The problem is, I have 0 education or experience in either. Now I work for an amazing Company and amazing group of people who I wold do anything for, but no amount of those things will ever change this industry, what is required to survive in it, and how it will completely break you down until you turn into someone you hate.

For those that don't know, this job is like sitting in a giant pressure cooker of stress and anger day in and day out. There is always someone to fight with, always someone to argue with, always a problem, always someone unhappy, and always someone blaming you for things that you don't and will never have control over. It will turn you into the worst version of yourself and slowly affect your personal life (the small one that you are allowed to have). There is a high probability that you will become an alcoholic and just an down right unhappy individual which will ultimately affect your wife, kids, and family. There is no such thing as a work/life balance. The job comes first. Period. You are either on the A Team or you are off the Team. Pick one. I just cannot imagine an entire career of being a part of this God forsaken industry full of greed and lies.

I'd say I have about 80% bad days and 20% good days. Maybe it has just been one of those days and I just needed to vent, but I know that one day soon I am going to just walk away and never look back.

Have any of you ever had experience in this industry? Does it get better? Has anyone made a drastic career change at 29? If so, were you happier after?

Sorry in advance for the long rant.

6.5 Creedmoor

Posted by OGD on 11/26/20 at 9:42 am
Can someone shed some light on the devastation the 6.5 Creedmoor round provides as far as an exit wound goes in whitetail? I love reduced recoil and the distance the round can provide, but the last thing I want is to shoot something with that round and you have a bullet size entry and exit wound with hardly any blood trail. It seems like the round is too small and too fast to properly expand inside when it hits an animal. Thus, only leaving a small entry and exit hole. I currently shoot a 30-06 and it leaves a massive exit wound with a heavy blood trail.

I know there are multiple factors that are at play here when we are talking about blood trails, but for the sake of argument lets say it is a double lung shot with a 6.5 Creedmoor. What I am trying to avoid is buying a 6.5 and afterwards realizing that it is too light and too fast to be practical for 0-150 yard shots that we typically deal with in Louisiana.

6.5 PRC Ammo

Posted by OGD on 11/9/20 at 8:42 pm
Anyone have any idea on when Hornady or Federal will start making 6.5 PRC ammo again? I have no idea how, but every gun store in South Louisiana is fresh out. It's not like this is a caliber that is extremely popular to where everyone is hording it. I can find 6.5 Creedmoor all day long, but I have to sell a kidney to find PRC. I have to imagine that it is a special caliber and very little is actually made?

Commercial Construction Project Manager. 110 and it’s not even close. Everything is your fault, there is never enough time in the day, unrealistic deadlines, constant confrontation and arguing, and everyone is out to screw over everyone. You live in a high intensity stressful environment on repeat 24/7. It never stops.

Barrel Threading

Does anyone have recommendations for barrel threading in the Baton Rouge Area? Good price ($75-$100) and speed (within a week) is what I am looking for.
